AUTO TRADER MOTOR

Mind you, wasn't the "proper" version like 500 BHP or something?.

Also, check out the photo sets here if you like shiny American things with a bit of grunt ;)

Standard sierra cosworth engine IIRC.  So 500bhp is certainly possible.  Pat dorans old rallycross car was quick - 60 in 1.8 seconds or something really silly.

Advert says it's a 1.8 ???

RS200's were all 2.0l or so I thought, so something smells IMHO...

Lot of replicas out there too....

Replica was my second thought...

Then there's

The Only One Of It's Kind, No: 184/200

The only one of it's kind, but number 184 out of 200?

Hello, is that trading standards?

???? I did a search and turned this up, says they were all 1.8

IIRC, the road versions had a developement of the BDT engine which was originally a 1.7 morphed in to a 1.8. I have a feeling that there may have been an upgrade to make it a 2.0l. The works cars were all 2.1's.

I doubt it's a one off though as there were definitely 200 road versions made, and there were a couple of dozen "works" cars too. Of the 200 made, approximately 50 were robbed for spares, meaning only around 150 ever made it to the open market.

The RS200 was a 1.8 Turbo.

So was the Peugeot T16 - it was a 1.8 turbo too.

Most people thought that it was the 1.9 GTi engine.....

wrong - totally different.

You're both right- The RS200 was sold in 2 guises

The "road"cars were all equipped with the BDT engines which were all the engines left over from the abandoned RS1700T project (rear drive MK3 escort turbo) & were bored out to near 1800cc.

The Evolution cars (nearly all were rally cars) had a 2.1 engine capable of upto 850 BHP, the most powerful one I know of is the Pikes peak special which Stig Blomquist tested a few years back.

There's an evolution a few miles from here, hardly gets used, last time it was at santa pod as a bit of fun & did a 9 second quarter mile. The same owner bought 6 standard RS200's when they were available but sold them all bar 1 a few years ago.

Awesome car but a pig to get going, if you let the revs drop below 3500rpm when starting off it just stalls & you have to sit with it for 15 mins to warm it up first!

Cheers,

Mark.
