MAT1800 Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I would suggest thread lock on the bolts. I didn't do mine at first, not sure if I was meant ot or not? I had problems with them working loose, so I have now used thread lock, but it was a pain because I had run the car, and the graphite grease was now on the bolt threads, so I had to clean them all properly before threadlocking. So I'd recommend doing this whilst fitting? Quote

So I'd recommend doing this whilst fitting? Yes you should use threadlock. I used Loctite 243 and made sure that all threads were covered not just a ring half way down the bolt. I ended up using three 10ml containers. MAybe suggest get the next size container up (50ml?) Quote

I found some Blue Loctite, in a Kind of 'prit stick' applicator, works really well so far, and easy to get a good covering, I found the small red tubes didn't seal properly, however this was before properly cleaning them. Oh, I was told it was graphite grease but I used the right stuff because the CV joints came with the grease in white tubes which I used. Quote
dern Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 As to whether or not your 2nd hand ones are any good... I have some sierra driveshafts to go on my locost and my plan is to throughly clean them in petrol, inspect the bearings and races for flat spots, cracks, weird colouring and if it passes my non-exacting visual test then I'll load them with grease and turn them over in my hands feeling for roughness and then finally, unless I've catagorically decided that they are fubar'd I'll just sling them in the car and listen for clicks, thunking and bangs. Not very scientific but there you go Mark Quote
