Kev Bamber Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 My Brother's looking to get a Ferrari 355, about 10 years old I think he said. We know the normal runnning and service costs, so now, main concern is major failure. Has anybody had any experience of waranty packages against major failure on cars like these, how much are they, & are they worth the paper they are written on? Quote
jonlewis Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 The only one worth having is a main dealer Ferrari one which costs a couple of grand. Mates of mine run a Ferrari specialist, and I have often heard of their battles with warranty companies who refuse to pay for anything which happens to be broke. Apparently these warranties are pretty good at covering anything that is working though Quote
jonlewis Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Sorry, forgot to add... common 355 maladies.... ECU Failure (paticularly on F1 gearbox cars) F1 Clutches Cambelt wear (some owners do not recognise the importance) Rust in butress joins (this used to happen on 1 year old cars, never mind 10) Disk Warping (anything that has been on a track day. They need extra cooling for it) Tyres need replacing in 4's ideally (Yes it does make a difference to the handling) Rust around nose badge. Damper electonics Quote
amc_black Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 EVO magazine have been running a 550 Marenello with the official Ferrari Warranty for a while. They took out the "Powertrain Warranty" which covered the gearbox, engine, ECUs and Diff. It cost at the time:£2335.90 per annum. Fairly recently the gearbox munched itself (technical term) and the warranty paid out in full. Link to 550 running report history: 550 Running reports Link to 355 (Spider) running report history: 355 Running Reports I hope these are of some use. Quote

smithydar Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 and i have a mate who used to be after service manager for ferrari.. he said the main problem was getting parts..nearly allways 3 month wait.to have the relevant parts made. which as you can imagine didnt please the customers much.to the extent of him leaving the company after receiving verbal threats about burning his house down. but if i could afford one i'd still have one. darren Quote
Martin Keene Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Rust in butress joins (this used to happen on 1 year old cars, never mind 10) I though the 355 was aluminium... Quote
