Fangio2 Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 PS I'm a driving instructor (allegedly), sounds like one of your other contributors is as well and i agree with the advice given, well some of it. If your wife has a tailgator then suggests she opens up the gap between herself and the car in front, allowing her more space to brake and giving her a safety zone to help the muppet behind if you all have to stop suddely. It's called braking for two. Quote
Gez Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I've got Road Angel navigator 7000... its dead easy to use, (can be used just a speed camera warning on its own not just sat nav), shows your speed and speed limit in big when in just speed camera mode, and flashes either red or green depending on your speed when approaching a camera (in both modes). Their database is very good too. Also has a decent battery life so on shortish trips does not need plugging in and comes with both home and car chargers. Quote
Pew Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Road Angel compact / plus gets my vote. Simple display showing speed, had one for years saved me many a time. Quote
brianm Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I have the original Road Angel, the classic as it's now called, with the optional lazer detecting add on, seems to work very well for established sites and most mobile lazer types. Only cost about £35 2nd hand off Ebay. Also have Navman520 with speed camera warning installed. Fine if you are glued to the screen, but the audible warning only happens as you pass the camera, useless. It's called braking for two. Can't say I agree with that, both from a speeding point of view, and the fact that I'm sure any tailgater will be just as happy to push at 40mph as at 30 which can only be more dangerous. I favour the ignore 'em view and offer a left indicator if its safe to pass, the wife slows to annoy them when I'm in the car with her. I wouldn't advise anyone on their own to do that, Quote
langy Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I bought a Road Angel Plus a few weeks ago (£100 off from Halfrauds) and all you have to do is turn it on. Easy, peasy Quote
melt Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Excuse the slight hijack Can the Talex system be used with headphones, the Westy gets a bit noisy at speed! Quote
MVS Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Road Angel Plus here. Shows speed in big numbers. Goes bright red if going too fast till you slow down. All you have to do is switch on (plug in if long journey). Update via the web weekly ish by plugging in to USB, switch on, launch program and click synchronise. Easy peasy. Quote
KerryS Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Road Pilot MicroGo. Free updates for year I think then pay. Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Origin B2 every time very easy to use very loud and visable warning and you can buy extra instlation kits to go in your other vehicles even the westie Origin B2 I'll orginise a bulk buy if there is interest as still got contacts RRP £280 maybe £230ish if demand is high Quote
ljsanders Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I have a Road Angel Compact and it isn't a bad piece of kit, although the laser detector is crap and not worth the money in my view. Besides if it warns you and you are speeding, you will have been caught already. It cannot cope with roads that are wet and there is lots of glare. On a recent trip to the South West, it must have gone off at least 20 times in the space of 40 miles. Quote
SimonT Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Microfuzion FZ1 http://www.microfuzion.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=MFZUNIT Nothing to do other than switch it on really. I download the updates every so often. Volume is OK in the Elise but no good in the Westy - Display is simple LED and if fitted in the right place will get your attention. I'm really pleased with it, especially for the money it costs. Free updates for life as well. Quote
xillent Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 To deter tailgating fit a headlight or even better, a floodlight to the back of the car. Just an idea. Quote
Fangio2 Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Re Talex and hearing the voice warning - answer is i don't know yet but it flashes at you to warn of the speed camera you are approaching with a pulse that quickens as you approach. Quote
Asterix Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 These 3 devices also recommended, if used in conjunction with each other: - Visionex Brainex Brakex Quote
