Peter Cox Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 I asked my sister-in-law, who works for a metal fabricators, for an offcut of ali plate. Having explained what it was for, it has arrived, cut, l-shaped, with a turn on the L ready to be drilled for fixings. The good news is, it definitely won't bend. However, it's 375gms and I'm worried that if I attach it, it will rip the front end of the chassis off*. To all those without fancy-pants carbon struts....how heavy is yours? *Just in case, that is obvious hyperbole Quote

tex Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 definitely - should use something like 2mm ally - make sure the mounting points are good to avoid wobble - the wobble might cause mounting holes to split.. use fat washers if into fibreglass.. etc Quote
Ian Podmore Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 should use something like 2mm ally That's rather thick IMO. Don't think mine is even 1mm thick Ali and its plenty stiff enough. Quote
Peter Cox Posted February 11, 2006 Author Posted February 11, 2006 My specialised eyeball calipers reckon the plate in use is 4mm thick. Anyone sprinting a Mercedes Axor this year? Quote
Tigger Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 I still have to make mine up yet, is there any specific dimensions it has to be? I.E height, depth, placement on car? Tigger Quote

Tigger Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Thanks for that Scott but where do I get a blue book from? Is there a blue book shop somewhere that I don't know about Tigger Quote
scott beeland Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Have you applied for your MSA license yet? It comes with that. You won't be able to sprint without a license so you need to get sorted Quote
scott beeland Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 See here MSA site Download application form and get it sent in Quote
Tigger Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Ah yes, not applied for that yet, will do it soon Cheers buddy Tigger Quote
adhawkins Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 I'd do it sooner rather than later. You're likely to start getting hit with regs in the next month or so (even for events right through to the end of the season). I don't know if an entry will be accepted if you can't quote your MSA license number on the form, and some events can fill up in a matter of days... Andy Quote
Peter Cox Posted February 11, 2006 Author Posted February 11, 2006 maximum vertical height 254mm s/be "minimum" Quote
