dawsac Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Has anyone had any problems with this unit? To be specific I believe that there may be a relay inside this unit that is responsible for the problems I am having with my starter. Does anyone have a wiring diagram? Quote
markcoopers Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 No ideas, but I have the Technical guys card at work, I'll email you the details tomorow. Quote
perksy Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Mark Was his name Andy Gray Can't remember if it was but i spoke to one bloke at Webcon and he was very helpful. Get the wrong bloke on the other end of the phone there though and it can be a experience.... all i got was "...refer to dealer..." Quote
perksy Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Has anyone had any problems with this unit? Yep, there's a batch of these units that can't be re-programmed. Both Mark & me have experience of this Dawsac, What makes you think this unit is linked to your starter motor problem Quote
Greenstreak-Andy D Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Have had some dealings with Webcon myself, Andy Gray is good from a commercial angle, but still reasonably technical, but i spoke to Alan Collins who is the engineer who certainly knows a thing or to! These are the contact details......... andy.gray@webcon.co.uk tel 01932 787100 alan.collins@webcon.co.uk tel 01932 750252 Give him a go, if your lucky he will be on a tea break from the rolling road! perksy Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Think i'd be recommending Megajolt or something else to anybody who was considering fitting Weber Alpha Won't be using it again meself Just my opinion though.... Quote
Blatman Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 My opinion too. Avoid Weber Alpha until they start letting owners access the software like Emerald/DTA/MBE/Omex/Pi etc etc do... Quote
dawsac Posted February 9, 2006 Author Posted February 9, 2006 I've been in touch with Westfield and Weber and they both say that there is nothing in the ECU that will effect the starter. The only place left to look is the ignition switch or the wiring under the dash. The ECU was only wedged under the dash and I have a feeling it may have worn through the main ignition wire, to the extent that the wire cannot carry the current. (Feasible?) If its the igntion switch I plan to fit a push button starter to save having to remove the steering lock. (Has anyone done this?) Also any ideas on where and how to fix the ECU securely? Quote
perksy Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 1. Didn't think so mate that why i asked 2. Check cable along it's length for damage and carry out a continuity test. Check wiring on/from ignition switch for damage etc Check the ignition switch itself. 3. Depends where and how it was fixed 4. Have a look on Steppenwolfs site, he has how to do this on there... 5. Mine is fitted to a piece of Aluminium sheet that's bent to fit under the passenger side of the dash, the ECU is screwed to it (out of sight) and supported by self adhesive foam strip to help stop vibration. The ally support is then screwed under the dash, so it can be removed easily. The ECU's serial cable is tye-wrapped up out of the way next to the ECU. HTH. Quote
dawsac Posted February 11, 2006 Author Posted February 11, 2006 Perksy Have you got a picture of your ECU in place? Just been on "Steppenwolfs" site, its superb, loads of tips a pictures. Quote
Mark19800_0 Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 I've been in touch with Westfield and Weber and they both say that there is nothing in the ECU that will effect the starter. If the ignition is too far advanced it will cause the engine to go 'solid' won't it??? Therefore there is a way that the ECU can add to starting problems Or have I got the wrong end of the stick? Blatman Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 The map won't have changed though, so unless the ECU has hit an electronic problem of some sort, it *must* be a mechanical fault... Quote
