Mark19800_0 Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 A Woman on ebay selling a Westfield Grille So I bidded to ensure it was mine, didn't realise i had bidded £30 when they are £23.10 from the factory. Stupid boy! Byatch got one of her mates to keep bidding on the item to up the price. When I checked, the second highest bidders history it turns out that they are bidding on each others items to increase the prices. Bit disappointed as it must be someone with a Westy that did it as it was a westy grille. I suppose you win some and you loose some. Sarah Campbell from West Yorkshire (Sarahsoup3) Shame on you! Oh and she may be getting an email off Ebay for 'Shill' bidding Hope knowone knows her Quote
The Great Fandango Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 It's an unfortunate fact the "shill" bidding is common place on eBay... There are the hardened pikey-F****** types who do it day in day out and there's the "innocent and new to eBay types" Either way, eBay are pretty good at sorting your troubles out... Try selling a TV on there for £1200, someone bidding on it, winning it, and then saying "don't want it mate". That was the beginning of a long lasting hatred campaign against me which involved the police eventually! Apart from that, eBay serves its purpose well. Hope you sort it all out, and don't pay the b*******s! There is, however, a moral to this story... Can you guess what it is? Quote
Mark19800_0 Posted February 3, 2006 Author Posted February 3, 2006 Just sent her this Sarah After winning this auction i decided to check who was bidding against me. When I checked out the other persons account, I noticed you had bought alot of items off her and vice versa and you were both located in West Yorkshire. Before I am prepared to pay for this item I would like for you to explain this to me as the price increased from £19 to £29. To me it looks like you and a mate are bidding on each others items to increase the price, which is totally illegal in ebays eyes and is called shill bidding. Look forward to receiving your responce Quote
gee_fin Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 If you spot shill bidding report it to eBay, they will remove both accounts. (doesn't get you your item but may help discourage others). With the amount of fraud, scams and other things going on eBay anything you can do to make it more difficult for these types of people is Personally, I think eBay should be doing a vast amount more to protect and help users. At present, they take a fixed fee for a listing, a percentage of the final sale price, then another 3.5%+ from the PayPal payment. It's outrageous. And what do you get in return? About twenty scam emails an item, scam bidders, difficulty refunding listing fees when scammed/messed about and about a 30% recovery of your sale/purchase fee from PayPal should you fall victim to something. I think right now, eBay needs to up it's game ten fold. They're raking it in and giving nothing back. Quote
SteveRST Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 While were on an ebay moan... I agree with Gee_Fin totally... Ebay make a packet and yet their fraud protection and service is pretty shocking. Really not good enough... and yet I still buy (or sell) through ebay at least twice a month and have used them for years... . ...But not today.. Got too p******** off with it all. I was looking for about 6 DVDs I wanted to purchase & I wanted original DVDs 'cos I am am into the Home Cinema. How many fake DVDs are there on ebay?!? And some are obvious, whilst others are not obvious at all and you can only guess that they are copies by reading through the feedback comments buyers have made. I gave up trying to guess copies from originals, and ordered brand new DVDs from play.com in the end which was actually not that expensive at all. Rant over, steve Quote
neilwillis Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Any counterfeit goods are subject to trading standards rules. If you buy ANY counterfeit goods on e-bay, put it in the hands of your local trading standards organisation, and tell the vendor that you've done so. Again, it's only a small gesture, but who knows, it might stop some scammers. Quote
Mark19800_0 Posted February 3, 2006 Author Posted February 3, 2006 Cheers for your comments guys, I have reported her and her mate to ebay, I will let you know the comeback. The worst thing is I will probably get bad feedback Quote
Blatman Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Which should be removed, especially if it's untrue. If you get bad feedback for refusing to pay because you have been cheated, tell Ebay that if they refuse to remove the inaccurate/untrue feedback, you'll be talking to your lawyers about a libel charge. As the publishers of the web site, they *are* liable for the content and any damage to your reputation that may be caused as a result of publishing inaccurate/untrue statements about you. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise... Quote
