jonlewis Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Picked up the car tonight from Ric Wood's in Stockport. While I could have done without the sub-zero, rush hour, nightime drive, he has done a great job. (I accept that rolling road differences may apply !!... just before someone comments) Start 144bhp at wheels Finish 172bhp at wheels The delivery is much smoother. He couldnt fix the cold start issues, as it turned out to be battery related (not big enough, so the ECU is switching off half way through cranking as the voltage drops)... this was backed up by finding that having the lights switched on during the drive home was lowering the voltage. Alternator is working fine, just more drain than gain when running extra electrics. Ric did give me tour of his place, lots of nice machinery, both cars and equipment.. engine dyno, cnc plants etc. Apparently he does a 250bhp Duratec for £5.5k fully dressed which sounds not bad to me. Anyway... recommended. Quote

JeffC Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 John impressive figures but what was wrong with the set up of the car to see a gain of 28bhp Is your engine running standard spec ? my car came off holeshots rollers with a claimed 163 bhp at the wheels , but on Mcdonald racing dyno had it about 20bhp less , but they calculated losses with a coast down , I think they had me at around 170 bhp at the engine and 143 at the wheels , mine is standard engine with PC3 fitted ... jonlewis Posted February 2, 2006 Author Posted February 2, 2006 Jeff The mapping was way out, but that was, I think, down to an SVA friendly map with all sorts of timing tweaks to get specific emmisions at specific revs. The engine is standard, but the ECU is a DTA P8PRO. The 144 was a Holeshot number. Jon Quote
JeffC Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I know a couple of busas that have come off Holeshots with 145 atw Jack told me most make 140-150 bhp on his road .... He suggested my engine was very healthy at 163.. but apparently tyre pressures can alter figures quite a lot if not using a coast down method of measuring the power .. there is a few threads about it on here ... I thought i had lost power when mine was checked at the N.East shoot out but as the car goes no different I think it was just down to the differing rolling roads as you say... these are the 2 graphs for my car from 2 different roads, both with Power commander fitted .. on the 2nd graph Mcdonald racing only difference in the car was I had changed to a bigger exhaust .. the first holeshot graph Jack said were at the wheel figures... I was wondering if his road actually calculates at the engine bhp , but that would make most of the Busas only producing 145 ish so my theory is prob wrong Quote
jonlewis Posted February 2, 2006 Author Posted February 2, 2006 Jeff, I have to admit that my understanding of rolling roads and their difference is limited... certainly Jack seemed to think 145+ was about the norm at the wheels. Do you have a reverse box like mine... would be interesting to know how much it takes out at the wheels. Jon Quote
JeffC Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 yes westfield reverse box fitted to mine... It wasnt running My 13" tyres at Mcdonald ,had to Put I think 15" to get it on the rollers but I dont think that should have made a difference.. Quote
slippy Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Get yourselves a CVH gents and open the door to real power Quote

jonlewis Posted February 3, 2006 Author Posted February 3, 2006 I always thought car engines had donkeys while bike engines had horses Quote
