congorobot Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 As a result of an accident, the sump of my crossflow had taken a knock. I have removed it and have knocked the dent out. Unfortunately there is also damage to the oil pick-up pipe. The mesh has a tear in it where it has contacted with the sump and the pipe has also bent slightly. Today I was at a ford escort specialist, (Retrosport), They had pick-up pipes from 1.3 and 1.6 crossflows but they did not match! The ones that they had did not have a part number or any identification, where as the one that I have is marked with a ford stamp, a part number, and another code. These are 711M-6617-DA and 10-10-81. I have phoned ford who explained that they do not have older part numbers on computer, and would not be able to help me! It was suggested that the pipe might have come from a fiesta XR2, as this was made until 1984, and that the second part of the code might refer to the date of manufacture. I also spoke to a scrappy owner today who said that it could also have come from a mk3 or mk4 escort, just to confuse the matter further! I would be very greatful if anyone could shed some light on the matter! Quote
stu999 Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Burtons? The Xflow (or at least deriatives of) are still being fitted into Ford Ka's today! If the second number is a date, it *could* possibly come from any of the Ford range of that era. Even a few Sierra's were fitted with Xflows IIRC... Quote
congorobot Posted February 1, 2006 Author Posted February 1, 2006 Tried Burtons, they said they do not stock them any more! Even if they did I am not sure if they would have the same type, given that its a different size and shape from the escort mk2 type. Quote
stu999 Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 They may not stock them, but could they identify it? Quote
congorobot Posted February 1, 2006 Author Posted February 1, 2006 Will try them in the morning then, cheers. Do you know of anywhere else that might be able to identify the part number? Got to say though that I am not best impressed with the service that I received from ford today!!! Quote
stu999 Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Sadly, Ford, as most other main dealers nowadays, are only interested in parts sales for the most recent models. And to be fair, I suppose they do have to draw the line somewhere! It might be worth arming yourself with Classic Ford, and Retro Ford magazines, and trawling through the classifieds. There are likely to be companies out there who specialise in parts for older Fords, and may have access to the original parts microfiche'. Otherwise, can you not have another pickup pipe made up to the original pattern minus the damage? Or is it properly totalled? Quote
DickieB Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 How different are the other ones that you looked at? And how badly damaged is the old one? I'd be inclined to keep the old one even if the mesh is worn. Maybe it's just me, but if the mesh needs to filter something that big, then you have problems in the engine already! Quote
congorobot Posted February 1, 2006 Author Posted February 1, 2006 At the first curve above the strainer the pipe is almost flattened, plus the tear in the mesh is right over the end of the pipe so in effect the mesh might as well not be there any more. The pipe was longer. It came down further on the vertical axis and extended further on the horizontal. The bracket that holds it is also longer, and the mesh bowl was about half the depth of the two escort mk2 ones that I looked at today. Quote
Paul Ash Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Vulcan engineering may be able to help. I think there is a link on the front of this website. Quote
congorobot Posted February 1, 2006 Author Posted February 1, 2006 Looks like a busy morning on the phone for me then!!! Quote
congorobot Posted February 2, 2006 Author Posted February 2, 2006 Ford have been back in contact with me this morning and say that the pipe is from a mk1 escort. Getting somewhere now! Quote
Martin Keene Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 the one that I have is marked with a ford stamp, a part number, and another code. These are 711M-6617-DA and 10-10-81. The 711M number will almost certainly match the code on the cylinder block just above the starter motor. That tells me that the oil pipe has come off a 711M block and the other number will be the manucaturing date... Quote
Robandcolin Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 There is a website called speedshack they sell loads of old ford parts. Sorry I don't have a link. (afternoon Martin) Rob Quote
