SDV Rear Brakes

Help!

Have a problem with the hand brake cable on my SDV. When refurbishing the drum back plates (they were a real mess and the cable were corroded into the back plates and the angle grinder came into play) I have manged to remove and throw away a sleeve that supports the the brake cable where it passes through the back plate. I now have a 14.5 mm hole and a very loose fitting handbrake.  Cannot get the part from Fords so I will have to get something machined up. Has anyone got or can let me have a close up photo of the hand brake cable passing through the back plate I can use as a reference to start from.

PS: Which direction does every one route the cable in from. Cable running from over Top wishbone or from under bottom one.

Hi Kipford, don't know about the drum type assembly but i do know that the hubs from a Sierra 2.0GLSi will bolt on to your uprights (i've got them on mine) this would give you rear disc brakes instead of drums :D  Just an idea ???

Although you would need a new hand brake cable to suit calipers instead of drums!

Right , I've got a spare pair of back plates , which have inserts fitted where the cable's pass through them (look like a top hat from the side) .

I have'nt tried to remove them for fear of damaging them , do you want the complete back plate or shall I try and remove one ?

Many thanks. Do you have a digital camera? If so could you please photograph both sides of the backplate close up so I can see the detail, I will then get a couple of bushes machined up. If that does not work I will be back to negotiate taking your backplates off you.

Mine have been shotblasted, painted etc and I did not want to waste it.

On reflection I will take up the offer of the Backplates. If you could PM me with your address I will send sufficient for postage and some beer drinking vouchers.

Much appreciated, PM sent about it. Shows the great spirit of the WSCC since I have been in it.
