Its time to ask for help again !

My front pads are worn out and after removal it looks like what was going to be simple job might actually need more work than I thought. The callipers have seen better days so I am faced with a recon job or it might make more sense to look at upgrade options. The current set up is Cortina (Girling) callipers fitted with spacer plates so they sit arround Capri vented disks (disks are in good condition). The car is on 13" wheels, which I do not want to change.

Do any of you have any recommendations for an upgrade and if so a price guide and possible supplier would be helpful.

Thanks

There are several options for 4-pot calipers that will be probably lighter than what you have currently. Generally, people say that vented discs are not necessary on a Westfield.

4-pots are available from CAT Motorsport, HiSpec (I think CATs are actually HiSpec items), Wilwood and others.

My 4 pots from CAT cost me about 120 quid each, with grooved discs being something like 20 quid each I think. All in, including Mintex 1144 pads (calipers and discs too), I think the total cost was around 350 quid.

For a comparison between the various options, I'd suggest doing a search. There is lots of information in the archives about this.

Although, price wise, you can recondition (or get reconditioned) your calipers for far less than you will pick up four pots for.

Adorn them with some decent pads and revel in your new found stopping power :t-up:

That's a good point. I switched from standard pads to Mintex 1144s on my previous car (sticking with the standard M16 calipers). After bedding them in there seemed to be an improvement in the braking on the car (although the car was sold a matter of weeks later so it's hard to tell).

At 40 quid a set, 1144s were definitely a good investment.

That's right - I got mine from Cat, but they're just Hi Spec, but with excellent customer service, and no branding on the side of the calliper!  :D  :p

There are a few more options to the ones Andy mentions; but the key thing to remember is that with some of the alternatives, you will probably want to change the master cylinder, as otherwise you may feel that your brake pedal's travel has got too long.

Both the Cat 4 pots and the Willwoods that are currently available at a group buy price from Rally Design will work well with the standard MC.
