Starcom1 - installation

Recommended Posts

I know a few (including Andy H) bought Starcom1 intercom systems at the end of last year.  I've just ordered one myself with the bulkhead connectors and additional cables for mobile phone and radio.

I would welcome any hints/tips on location and fitting the unit. It seems to me that the best place for the main unit is the 'boot' with the bulkhead connectors sited in between the two seats.

Alternatively the main unit could go under the dash, with the bulkhead connectors still between the two seats, which would allow for easier connection to mobile/ipod/radio.

Thoughts please.

Thanks

I haven't fitted mine yet, but I think I'll put it under the dash. It seems to me that'll be the easiest place to get power to, and as you say, connecting up an IPod or whatever will be easier to do that way.

Not sure where I'm gonna put the bulkhead connectors, need to get myself and Luned into the car to see where's easily accessible. I'd prefer the connectors to be behind me (so that the cables naturally fall backwards) but it's a question of ease of access to them once you're sat in the car.

Thanks for the reply.  I was coming to the same conclusion as you abut positioning of the unit and the bulkhead plugs.

Still haven't got around to installing mine.  I was thinking of putting the unit in a waterproof box behing the rear bulkhead (no boot on mine).  I was going to put bulkhead connections between the seats as already suggested.  I also wanted to install a socket for the phone and headphones next to the bulkhead connectors but so far I haven't found any waterproof sockets.  Any idea where I can get some?
