JonnyBoy Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Wonder if anyone's been to Prague at all? Looking at either Hotel Josef with Expedia or the Andels Hotel about £350 - £400 for 3 nights... likely to find better? I hear prague is best seen if you stay in the centre, which as far as I can tell the josef is. The Andels seems further out but saves about £50 quid between us. Any experience of Prague anyone? Advice gratefully received. TIA Quote
Chasmon Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Went early last year (snow plows out in force on airstrip! The public transport is very good regular trams so I would not be too worried about the travelling. I can't off the top of my head remember our hotel (I'll find out) but it was modern had a 24 hr bar and very clean. Not right in the centre but we paid very little for it. Hotel Resturant was good but if you eat there you are missing out on the best part of Prague. I think the places you're probably looking at are somewhat more upmarket though. The Resturants and Bars are fantastic and cost a fraction of over here... ...Of course I was on a stag so we did that and blew lots on the dancing girls and came home with incriminating photos. Captain Nemos gets my recommendation Beautiful place to go with the better half too though! Quote
The Irv Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Went a year ago with the lads, we managed to get a very big and very nice 4 bed two storey appartment for the week for £400, it looked over a private courtyard and had a fantastic pub in the basement (60p a pint) it had two bathrooms, kitchen, TV with satellite/digital. In the basement on the next building there was a small strip club that gave us free entry when they found out we were staying next door. It was on street called Jilska. http://www.prague-hotel.co.uk/ They pick you up from the airport and take you straight to the door. If anyone asks you to go to a club called Mystery, do not go, it expensive and the girls are...well if you can call them girls. You have to try the grub from the fastfood stands on Wenceslas Square at 5am whilst socially relaxed...absolute magic!.....mmm deep fried cheese! Clubs wise, just ask for the biggest dance club in town (near charles bridge) Food wise only eat in the places that look traditional, same goes for the drink, the modern bars seemed to serve crap beer at our prices...oh and don't you to the english pub the George and the Dragon (i think) you'll be dissapointed...although the yanks seemed to love it. Try asking one of the locals for a night club, the reaction on their faces with be magic. (night club = brothel). Best advice I can give though is just enjoy yourself, the stories you come back with will be worth every penny. Steve Quote
david matthias Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 We went in december last year & stayed in the Hotel Charles about 1 min from the Charles bridge in the lesser Quarter. We booked through last minute .com for the hotel, flight & transfer from airport to the hotel. don't bother booking a transfer back you can do that with your taxi driver on the way to the hotel for half the cost. If you are looking for a nice older hotel the Charles would be ideal. They don't have there own restaurant but you are so close to many other bars & restaurants that its not an issue. The breakfast is served in what is actually part of the steak restaurant in the hotel basement. You can easily walk the city from there. We very nearly booked a hotel on wenceslas square having been there we were very glad that we did not the square is one of the few areas we saw that had been "modernised" & it just looked like a very busy dual carriagway with everyday shops down each side. Its a great place to go. If your into architecture then your in for a treat especially at night some of the buildings are very well lit. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Radisson very nice good central location and you can pre-book blacked out mercs for transfers from airport to Hotel comfy Quote

Advice gratefully received. TIA Stayed at the Andels about 18 months ago. Very nice modern, clean hotel. Not much to do in the hotel, but to be honest you should be out and about. 5 minutes away is a shopping centre which has a tram stop outside, and a underground station, so is ideal to around. Make sure you look at a boat cruise (with dinner), the castle on the hill, and the main town area. Ask the concierge at the hotel to take you to the Moet and Chandon restaurant. Right on the river, bit pricey but worth it. Best advice I can give is go Sunday night to Thursday you then miss the stag and hen party crowd. I have a guide book if needed, pm me and I can post to you. Mark Quote
