Barry Ashcroft Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 I currently have Austin Powers guiding me round the countryside "yeah baby yeah" "You have reached your destination groovy baby" Quote
steve wilson Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Ive just downloaded some from limewire. They show up on the pc as being on my tomtom but when i disconect from the pc and look in voices to select there not there. Quote
karlgurney Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Have you read the read me file?? It will overwrite yous existing voices, so make a back of them before you copy to phone, i've allways found its quicker and more reliable to use a card reader rather than use the cable for the phone. Quote
Boomy Posted January 25, 2006 Author Posted January 25, 2006 Have you read the read me file?? It will overwrite yous existing voices, so make a back of them before you copy to phone, i've allways found its quicker and more reliable to use a card reader rather than use the cable for the phone. Thanks for the tips but the voices were all individual files for me.I dragged and dropped to the voices folder and that was it, all the original voices are there still along with the addon ones. They are just named different to the original ones by simply using a different number. The originals are for example data05, these are like data20, data45 etc etc. Quote
karlgurney Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 For each voice there are 2 files, a .chk and .vif make sure you copy both of these to the voices folder. if that doesn't work back up your normal voices and rename the new voices so they have the same file names as the old voices, remembering to rename both sets of files for each voice. It does work you just need to confuse it sometimes. Quote
Boomy Posted January 25, 2006 Author Posted January 25, 2006 I think my message was a bit unclear, my fault!. I was suggesting that on my unit at least, i just dragged the files in and they worked just fine. They didn't overwrite anything simply because they are named as different numbered files. When i browse the voice menu, they are all there and working fine. I posted what i did due to you suggesting: "It will overwrite yous existing voices, so make a back of them before you copy to phone" So i was saying thank you for the tips, but that isn't what happened to me, it was a simple drag and drop and it all worked with nothing being overwritten. I assume some units are different to others? Thanks anyway for the advice, i did back up my file first just to make sure nothing went wrong EDIT: Hang on, was you talking to steve wilson? Quote
steve wilson Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 I finally managed to sort it. Most of them are really bad impersinations. John cleese is the only real one. Quote
ChrisG Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Another for Tom Tom Mobile 5. Ive got my bluetooth GPS unit plugged into the 12v socket in the boot, it just sits there plugged in all the time under the parcel shelf not cluttering up the dash so all I have on the dash is a cradle for the phone, and a regular car charger for long journeys (it will drain the phone battery in 2-3 hours otherwise cos the screen is always on). Tom Tom does seem to have a couple of issues on the Nokia N70 phone that Ive got at the mo, when using multiple 3rd party POI's it seems unable to hold a reliable connection to the GPS unit, but I can still use the single file version of the speed camera database from PocketGPS plus all the built in POIs so thats all you really need unless you're desperate to locate the nearest McDonalds etc. Chris Quote

Aye, the ones i tried are pretty naff.I can do better impressions of them all myself, i kid you not. I did change the splash screen when i switch it on to a picture of my Westy though, so that made up for it Quote
karlgurney Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 There was a site on the web which told you how you can make you own voice files. So if you was that way inclined you could still have the missis nagging you! Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Just to resurrect this topic, I have downloaded custom points of interest warning sounds to go with the pocketgpsworld speed camera POI database. Now, instead of sounding like an incoming tractor beam from a Klingon vessel on the flight deck of the Enterprise, a female voice says "GATSO - 30" or whatever. Same site as for the camera database here Quote
