Boomy Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 I can't seem to tell what the real difference is between the tom tom go 300 and the tom tom one. I only need a basic unit and they both do 3d/2d maps, both talk to you, both have touch screen and both seem to of got good reviews. On the Dixons web page, under the heading "Country Maps included =" for example, the tom tom one just says "Great Britain" and the 300 just says "Local Maps".What does that mean?.Does one do more streets than another or summat? I'm a bit new to all this sat nav stuff as you can tell but as the 300 is £50 more expensive i don't want to pay extra if it is exactly the same unit as the 'one', but just plays MP3's or something just as pointless. westy666 Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 not alot! of difference from the looks of it - if anything the tomtom1 has a faster processor in it. Ive got a 500 and it has bluetooth for connecting to ya phone - the 300 might be the same but thats prob the only difference Quote
peterg Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 I believe the 'One' has all the features of the 300 plus it's a bit smaller I'm guessing the 300 is not long for this world for best price check out here sadly they've actually gone up about £40-50 since just before Christmas Quote
Mike H Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 If you just use motorways you don't need either. Just get a old fag packet, paint it white then paint a red stripe down the middle and hey presto your home made sat nav. It makes me laugh when I go past so many motorway drivers with their sat navs stuck to their dash and all it shows is a big red straight line - what's the point? Most of them know exactly where they are going anyway ! Mike Quote

Boomy Posted January 24, 2006 Author Posted January 24, 2006 Ok thanks, i'm going to get the 'one' one then i think. I only got shown a gps unit for the first time the other week, one of the first tom toms i believe and it was pretty damn impressive. Quote
Boomy Posted January 24, 2006 Author Posted January 24, 2006 Whats wrong with a road atlas <!--emo& under a fiver, Bob's your uncle (actually i don't have an uncle Bob ) I have many maps, my head is often buried in them due to driving and delivering for a living (until i work out what i really want to do that is). The Sat nav one of the guys brought into work when he came out with us made the job 100 times easier, hence i want one. We left it on along motorway sections because we had punched in a post code or address and it was telling us how to get there. Turning it off just because we were on a straight bit of road would of meant having to program it in again. Quote
pistonbroke Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Very handy if theres an accident / blockage and you get re routed off of the motorway I use my tom tom to send message for help better than smoke using signals , but sometimes get complaints about the noise Quote
Rover 16v Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Does anyone have any experience of TomTom 5 Mobile Which is a gps unit which links into your mobile phone via blue tooth device. Quote
DeanoUK Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 I use TOMTOM mobile 5 on my phone and it works a treat. Anything you want to know? Quote
