dawsac Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Went into the garage to give her a run at the weekend and all I got was click click click. Took the starter motor off and it worked fine on the bench, put it back on and she started, just. Went for a blat, parked her up, went back in tonight, click click click and now for some reason I can't push the clutch in, its solid. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
dawsac Posted January 24, 2006 Author Posted January 24, 2006 The battery was five years old, so I've replaced it tonight cost me £48. Guess what? Click Click Click CAN ANYONE HELP Quote
Darren B Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Not sure about the clutch issue, but I had a bad connection to the starter solenoid when mine did something similar. Worth checking all the earths. Darren Quote
Blatman Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Has the car ben stood for a while? If so, the starter pinion my be stuck. Whacking the satrter sometimes frees it. If not, then the solenoid is toast... Clutch is an odd one. Is it stuck solid? Could be a siezed cable or maybe some sort of physical obstruction. If you have an MT75 gearbox and a Westfield OEM clutch release bearing, they have a known issue with the spacer on the CRB falling off... Quote
perksy Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 If you have an MT75 gearbox and a Westfield OEM clutch release bearing, they have a known issue with the spacer on the CRB falling off... Check operation by removing the rubber cover from the side of the gearbox and shine a torch in, whilst getting somebody to operate the clutch pedal. CRB/Spacer Could of jammed as blatman says, was the noise of the spacer/CRB rattling around, worse than normal, when you last used the car Quote
MAT1800 Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 No idea about the clutch, But another vote for wacking the starter, mine has just been playing up in the exact same way, I tried hitting it with the handle of a mallet whilst turning the ignition key and it worked. I just need to take it off and 'clean' it up now... I hope. Going to do a search about best way of doing this, will post back. Mat. Try this link for 'cleaning' tips. KerryS Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Hey Mat, you in the running for Deputy Searchmeister? Kerry Quote
MAT1800 Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 I wish.... has to be easier than the exhibition industry. I searched so I shared. Brought back some memories re-reading my post just before SVA. Why did I go changing it again, if only I'd read that post before Quote
dawsac Posted January 25, 2006 Author Posted January 25, 2006 First off thanks for all the help. I'll be going in at the weekend and the plan is as follows: 1.Starter off again, strip, check, clean and lubricate. 2.Try and get a look at the clutch thrust, through the hole where the starter should be. It was getting noisy and probably due for replacement, maybe its fell too bits. (This brings up another question can I get the gearbox out without removing the engine?) 3.Check out the clutch cable and check that its not siezed. 4.Put it all back toghether again and go for a blat. (Fingers crossed) I'll keep you posted. Andy Quote
Martin Keene Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 (This brings up another question can I get the gearbox out without removing the engine?) Unless your chassis has been heavily modified, then nope... Edited to add: Which is highly unlikey. The only Westfield I know of that can have it's gearbox removed with the engine in situ has a sort of removable tunnel and the gearbox comes out into the passenger footwell! Quote
Blatman Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 This brings up another question can I get the gearbox out without removing the engine?) Sadly not... Quote
