SteveRST Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 I had done quite a few airfield days in my FWD Escort and I couldn't help but notice how cool and how much fun these 7 type cars were. They looked simple and easy to work on and I knew I could get a 7 for around 5k. Sold the Escort RS to save some money, and made it a target to get one when I turned 25. And so it did! Did some research into the different makes of 7, and decided upon Westfield for various reasons. Spent several months waiting for the 'right one' to come up at a decent price. I had never even been in a 7 type car until I took a test drive in the first Westfield I went to see. I bought that car. Happy days!!! Just been outside fitting a new throttle cable, after breaking it yesterday. It's all good fun, and I even enjoy fixing the thing when it breaks. (which is not often really). steve Quote
BN-ZE-11 Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Visited Sylva cars with a mate who wanted to buy one, had a ride in it and was hooked. After saving up for about a year I decided a Westfield was the right car for me and bought a SEi kit. That was 1989, in 1991 I sold it and moved to Germany. After many years without a Westfield I decided it was time to get one again. In 2004 I bought a ZEi and imported it to Germany. Steve Quote
detailer Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Saw one in the autotrader and wondered what it was. Went and had a look and fell in love. Caterhams too expensive and so similar to Westfields couldn't justify the extra for essentially the same car. Quote
cast iron Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 As a teenager I read CCC and they anounced the SEiW, liked the look of it, and every CCC at about that time had the factory advert in it. However I went Karting and Rallying then married. Marriage started falling apart she went to university I needed a hobby. A friend of mine who built the car one of the Coronation street bods drives around in, built a race car and I went for a spin in it at a Sprint and that was it. I wanted to go sprinting and didn't want to use a trailer so bought a road going car from some dubious characters in Leeds and the rest is history, including the Ex Wife. Joined the club and have had a great time and for my sins ending up AO Just need to find a single birds who likes Westys now Quote

Bananaman Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Always been into Bikes then cars, had a few classic's, then i got bought a track experience at Oulton and LOVED it, thought i NEED to do more of this, nearly bought an E30 M3 but it fell through (still fancy one, along with about 100 other cars.......... ) Started looking at other trackday cars, tested a couple of catering vans and a couple of narrow westies but they were just too small (or i'm i'm too fat... ) Eventally got a 2.0L Zetec SEiW and loved it.... After a couple of years of fast road trackdays and watching a few sprints i decided i fancied that... I was planning on modding mine when i bought a trailer from mhc and saw the blue car to say i fell in love was an underestimation.......... I then found out that mhc would be open to an offer so i flogged the original Bannanawaggon and scraped together the extra cash and became the proud owner of my current MickMade car... I've been a member of several car clubs befor but can honesly say that this club is the best by far, the people are spot on... Had so much help/advice/fun it's taken over a large portion of my life and an even greater portion of my cash.... Quote
DickieB Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 I read the Top Gear article in early 2000 about building and racing a Locost, and thought that sounded fun. But Mark Stanton and others who I already knew in the WSCC said try a Westfield first. So I did, and that was fun. But it wasn't enough, so it was sold in late 2002 to make way for a racing Locost which I raced from 2003-2005 inclusive. But then I moved to London so the Locost had to go. And it did in Oct 2005, along with the trailer and van. But then I realised that my life wasn't complete anymore, and my (very understanding) wife complained that I was getting in her way at the weekends. So then I bought a racing Locost (again, different one). Arrives tomorrow at about 2pm. And we're all happy again! Moral of the story - don't ever sell - there's always a way to manage, especially with such good friends in the WSCC. Dickie Quote
Mark Stanton Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Now c'mon Dickie you've missed some important early days out speeding bans and curborough, driving car faster than the owner, loose belts, Quote

Gromit Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 I`ve allways been into cars/bikes from and early age (I blame my father for that). I started off tinkering around with Hillman Imps and after owning 4 of the things I built a sprint Imp (still road legal thought) that I campained for about a year. Sold that and got into bikes for about 8 years but decided to give them up as a bad idea after one too many nears misses. In the meantime I started working as spanner twiddler for Chris Maries with his rotary engined Westy, fancied one for meself straight away but I had to wait for 8 more years before I came across Nana`s old car in a breakers (write off) and decided to go for it and do a rebuild. Best decision i`ve make in a long time, last year I had some of the best fun i`ve ever had in a car (nudge nugde wink wink) and I cant wait to finish the work on her winter refresh and get back out on the roads again. Stroll on summer. Quote
