Just in general.

I tend to agree, people should be severely disciplined for incorrect usage in my eyes

It might be my sheltered life but in a million miles of driving from Land's End to John O'Groats in all weathers but I cannot say I have ever been (personally) in a situation where a rear fog light would add significantly to the safety of the situation. It would have, and has, detracted from the safety on many a time.

(dives for cover)  :)

Can't argue with that. I too have driven somewhere approaching 1.5 million miles, the majority of that being on motorcycles which don't have fog lights. IE, they are not really a necessity on a Westfield...

Never used them myself either,I can't abide the dozy git's who put them on for nothing (escpecially in the rain )and forget to turn them off.   :sheep:

My other pet hate is fog/headlamp abuse   :arse:

Here's an extract from regulation EU48 which is most likely what SVA check against - this being what production cars are designed to ....

6.11. Rear Fog Lamp

6.11.1. Presence

Mandatory.

6.11.2. Number

One or two.

6.11.3. Arrangement

No special requirement.

6.11.4. Position

6.11.4.1. In width: if there is only one rear fog lamp, it must be on the opposite side of the median

longitudinal plane of the vehicle to the direction of traffic prescribed in the country of

registration, the centre of reference may also be situated on the median longitudinal plane of

the vehicle.

6.11.4.2. In height: not less than 250 mm nor more than 1 000 mm above the ground. For

Category N3G (off-road) vehicles, the maximum height may be increased to 1 200 mm.

6.11.4.3. In length: at the rear of the vehicle.

6.11.5. Geometric Visibility

Defined by angles α and β as specified in Paragraph 2.13.

α = 5° upwards and 5° downwards;

β = 25° to right and to left.

6.11.6. Orientation

Rearwards

Hope this is of help ...

Not if I can help it. With 5 cars and a motorbike, I'm not usually short of a vehicle to use.

That said, I was a proferssional rider for 17 years, as I'm sure remember... :p

Blimey, assuming you're 40ish that's 65k miles every year since 17.

And at an average of 30mph that's 90 days (24hrs) solid in a car every year.

Respect :D
