adamnreeves Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Tried fitting the uprated AP cylinder master and the threaded plunger seems to long meaning I am going to have to cut it down, is this right before I do this? How much do you normally cut off? If I had known this I would have measured the one I sent back first!! Quote
nikpro Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 threaded plunger seems to long meaning I am going to have to cut it down, is this right before I do this? Not quite sure what you mean by this technical description! My pedal box is different to yours as it is floor mounted but I didn't have to remove anything from the master cylinder. Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 It needs cutting and adjusting to make sure you get full travel on the cylinder before you attempt to bleed it also make sure you have the 10mm end float as per the build manuel. Quote

Yep adjusted to 10mm end float, remembered having read that although was not relevant for my top mounted box as the master brake was installed already. I fitted the clips 10mm from the end on the AP uprated item and I could mount the pedal box, looks like I need to remove about 15-20mm, haven't measure it yet. I guess the plunger itself is not adjustable. Thanks Barry, I jsut wanted to make sure before I get my hacksaw out and distroy it! Quote
adamnreeves Posted January 14, 2006 Author Posted January 14, 2006 I am going to the autosport show tomorrow and probably wont get time to do this then so I couldn't resist. Meant missing first part of Casuality but I have took my hacksaw to the AP master brake cylinder. I fitted to the brake pedal and measured the difference between the master brake mounting surface and the top box being careful not to push the plunger in at all. Worked out to be exactly 10mm. I therefore cut 10mm off set to 10mm end float and voila perfect pedal right against the microswitch. Doesn't seem to be a lot of travel the pedal, well I suppose it doesnt seem much when operating by hand with no brakes or fluid present! Quote
Darren B Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 There ain't a great deal of pedal travel when you use them by foot either. Driven a couple of race braked cars before and the APs are similar in that in not having any assistance they are all about pressure rather than pedal travel. Darren Quote

Darren I am for all pressure, certainly gives more confidence if less travel but more pressure. Quote
