Buzz ........... my leon TDI has seen over the 140 mark and had grunt in abundance ......... i am torn as to wether i would go 225 petrol or 150 dismal , i am proberbly getting mine chipped so 200bhp dismal will be a stonker .

hopefully next year its new car time again and its proberbly gonna be a new leon cupra tdi as the new version is being rumoured to have 200bhp as standard

however the new cupra petrol and S3 are rumoured to be 253bhp petrols so again it may be a tough one .

the old 150 tdi is quicker than the new 2.0 140 which is another reason i went that route though delivery from the audi was smoother.

DSG is dead cert next time round though ...........that box is awsome :D

Harv spoke with SEAT yesterday athe show there not bring out a Cupra diesel they are calling it something which escapes me and they'll b a 180Bhp diesel the Cupra petrol only @270bhp with DSG as standard.circa £21k bagin but that won't be till 2007 tho'

as for the grunt of a TDi crop duster no thanks petrol every time I've had enough of tractors! and the company pays the fuel!

i would personnally tell him to test drive a leon cupraR i tested both the audi and the leon (they are both the same chassis and dash) and found you got a much better leon for your money .......... if he's dead set then fine , but the seat drives in certain ways and audi doesn't , left foot braking with the fly by wire throttle is the first audi no no but seat yes yes........ but that may not bother him , he may just want the badge.

Thats interesting Harv

My Wifes Leon Cupra (Not R) cuts the power if you try to left foot brake. So does My Skoda Octavia Vrs.

The Cupra R is a bargain at the moment. I got a flyer from the dealer through the post the other day SEAT are knocking them out for about £15K new thats before you do any sort of deal. I know its the old model but its still a massive amount of car for the money. We have had the wifes Cupra from new 4 years ago and its now done over 80K miles and it has been fantastic.  We are looking to replace it now, but I know she will be sad to see it go.

I just don't see the comparison with the Seat myself no matter how chipped or bling they are      ;)  :p  Surely the attraction of the S3 is the 4WD, which the Cupra doesn't have.

Early ones wouldn't have had fly by wire throttle.  ARB drop links are 12 quid each from Audi for the plastic type and a little more for the other type.  Cheaper if you get them from other suppliers.

Different engine codes have different cam belt replacement schedules too, there is no one interval for the 1.8T engine - so you may need to check out the service history in detail.  Having said that Audi dealers don't bother looking up the correct interval if you ask them they will just say 'oh about 80,000' which isn't always right.  Some are about 110,000 (180,000km) I think.

Look out for the usual ignition coil problems with the pencil type coils (earlier cars had different type which bolt in and don't have the problem).

Air flow meters can be a problem but Audi sell them on an exchange basis - will cost you about 100 quid for a replacement.

Intermittent misfire could be down to ignition module problems - doesn't always show as error in ECU.  Audi price >200 quid but you can get the same part (without Audi rings) from elsewhere for around 110.

Check the rear wiper works properly, common problem with the motor spindle and arm/wash jet attachment means it all revolves together !

If it were me I would have the Audi for the 4WD, quality and image but I'm a snob.

mine definately does not cut the power ......... the first thing both donkey dave and i tried when we got it was left foot braking ,his audi is horendous when you do it but mine definately does not ................was thinking maybe it was a petrol dismal difference , but its not because daves is a dismal like mine.

And mike badge snob or not the 4wd is never ever gonna be worth 7k , in fact when i looked at the a3 you would have added 10 for the same spec but with 4wd .......... are you sure its worth 10k more than the seat  ???

Is yours a fly by wire engine or one of the earlier cable engines. There is one corner on the way to work that really needs a bit of left foot braking :-) and both cars die when you brush the brake.

Also doesn't the A3 have a Haldex viscous 4wd system rather than the more expensive full time 4WD Quatro system on the A4 and above. I though the Haldex cars live most there life as FWD until they loose traction. So this means they have to loose traction before they drive all 4 wheels.

mines a 2005 car baz.............. fly by wire ......... , what happens is there is quite a delay so if you kept your foot hard on the pedal for more than a few seconds it cuts power , which you would not do when left footing ......... when you hit daves audi 1 then it cuts it the second you touch it ....................... humm hang on ..............

my brake lights don't come on straight away till a really hard pedal press , i ts been like that since new , i wonder if that has any effect on where the ecu takes the signal to cut power , try playing with your brake light switch bazz.

Just went and got a oil filter and antifreeze for the Busa. So I took the wifes car and it does cut the power with just a brush of the brakes. So it does sound like it could be brake light switch adjustment.

So that means I might be able to get my Vrs to allow a little left foot braking [+]

we've got an a4 quattro t sport (180bhp) and ok the handling doesnt give a huge amount of feedback but other than that i cant really fault it , if you want more speed just get a chip theres a lot of them out there , i would have an s3 no doubt as an every day car and as already stated get it chipped and add a miltek again as stated it depends wether yoiu want 4wd or not  :)

we just checked how much pedal movement is needed before the lights come on .......and on mine its an inch + before the light .............. this has to be the answer ........try it.

indeed the brake light switch puts the car into limp home mode shutting down the turbo.. Ive had a sharan tdi with no turbo working and was the brake light switch shorting out  ;)
