detailer Posted January 15, 2006 Author Posted January 15, 2006 I find exhaust louder than quaife noise but its not far behind (side exit exhaust conforming to the track day noise tests) . My 1st gear is long. The ratios were recommended by quaife and mechanic. The quaife noise is higher pitched. I suppose its similar to reverse gear whine in a normal road car as they are straight cut. It just sounds better. Watch DTM our touring cars and you can usually hear that race transmission noise on the onboard cameras. Quote
paulvdk Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Impossible to swap Quiafe SC 5 gearset with standard helicalset, look at the splines. Quote
Blatman Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Odd I know of a couple of cars running helical 5ths in otherwise straight cut gearboxes. Maybe a call to Brian Hill would be of benefit. Quote
skids Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Could sell a Type 9 with straight cut gear set (Tranex)fully serviced and still in the garage that serviced it , l have both long and short input shafts.New input shaft alone cost £184.box has not been used with it yet. Make a very sensible offer and l may sell. i use a 4.7 diff and this gives 135 top end with this box most of you will go faster than that! Quote

Prob by using the likes of a Tran-X gearset which uses the standard type 9 mainshaft. By the look of that, Quaife don't. Quote

I'm reasonably sure they're both Quaife although one may well have been through BGH. However, reasonably sure is some way off certain Quote
