oilmansi Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Our "new" website has been in development for the last three and a half months. Our main focus areas have been product range, an easy to use online shop, easy site navigation and discounted Members Area for the Clubs and Forums that we are associated with. The site is now available to view at http://www.opieoils.co.uk We need as much feedback as possible from Members here to enable us to pass any important comments back to our web designers. We would be most grateful if you would take a look at your convienience and let us know what you think as all feedback is valuable to us and our design team. Thanks in advance for your help. Cheers Simon and Guy Quote

peterg Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Yep, nice site Simon (and Guy) very easy to navigate etc - just a pity you're not near Gloucester as I'd get my heating oil from you Quote
chappers Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Hi oilmansi, Having read your oil posts in the past, I thought I'd reply. The sight looks very good, as already mentioned it it easy to navigate. Just tried the recommend a lubricant function which is a good idea, and will hopefully get a reply soon. Like any other site I would still find it quite difficult to decide which of AMDoil, Silkone, Castrol etc. was better and which oil I should buy, though the recommend a lubricant function might help with this. Since you post on the 7 sites maybe a few extra mentions of specific other vehicles would help, e.g. if I was looking for an oil filter for my zetec, which part would I need if I wanted a stubbie one to clear my steering column on my westie. Obviously I and anyone else could phone, but internet shopping is easier if the info is already there. In the same vane as choosing which oil to get maybe eventually cross reference table could be set up detailing engine type, recommended manufacturer's oil grade, type of vehicle use (e.g. fast road), and recommended lubricants, so you can decide what to get straight away. Though if the recommend a lubricant function is prompt that would be O.K., though some other websites take ages to reply, at which point I lose interest. One final thing is that the telephone number is a required option for the recommend a lubricant function, and I personally don't always like disclosing mine in case I get inundated with unwanted phone calls - deleting unwanted e-mail is much easier. Good site though and I'll definitely have another look after my recommended lubricant comes though. Regards Kev. (Edit to say that my oil recommendation came through in less than an hour for 5w30 or fully synthetic 5w40 for my zetec. ). Quote
Jonah Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Hi Simon, Nice easy to navigate site. I sent off my WSCC details and got the password back promptly. I have just tried it & the members discount feature works O.K. I will try the recommended lubricants link later. Thanks for your input to the forum regarding oils. Pete Jones Quote

JonnyBoy Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I would recommend that you look at SEO (search engine optimisation) for your site. You are running no keywords or page descriptions. Even if you are mainly creating the site for an existing customer base it is still worth putting meta tags in to help users searching the web to find you. I would aim for people searching for 'performance oils cornwall' finding you on google. There are no sponsored links for this, so easy new customer attraction there! Simple things you can do to improve your search engine ranking are using text as navigation links as opposed to image based text links, and placing carefully selected keywords into your meta tags. Otherwise.. looks good and works well If you have paid for this site to be professionally produced.. then I wouldnt consider it finished till meta data is complete. HTH Quote
oilmansi Posted January 15, 2006 Author Posted January 15, 2006 We are currently doing this exercise. Thanks for the advice. Cheers Simon Quote
neilb Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Looks good, maybe a few book marks and back to top links on the pages with long lists would help (remember people are lazy and if they can find stuff quickly they go off somewhere else) but other wise good site - like it Quote
Peter Cox Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Like the site Si, though I think the Denso spark plug claim "virtually guaranteeing you victory after victory" must've been written in a ganja-hazed 4am long strokey beard moment. Unless, of course, it's true. In which case put me down for a set and someone call Bernie Ecclestone Quote
oilmansi Posted January 15, 2006 Author Posted January 15, 2006 That is the text from the Denso brochure! I guess badly translated Japanese more likely. Cheers Simon Quote
