sp858 Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Hello.. I have noticed a small water leak coming from around the bottom of the radiator on my CVH. I have tightened hoses etc but if it continues I will have to take the nose cone off to investigate further and possibly remove the radiator. I am new to this mechanic lark and my car has the ducted nose which is not mentioned in the build manual that came with the car (I bought it built up). Can anybody give me advice on the correct way to remove the nose (and, I guess, radiator) including what I need to disconnect.. Thanks for your help Simon Quote
steppenwolf Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 It is possible to remove the ducted nose, leaving the radiator 'hanging'. 1. undo the number plate brackets as these should be trapping the inner duct at the bottom front of the nosecone 2. remove the three stainless steel bolts in the top 'mouth' of the duct that hold the top of the duct to the top of the nosecone in the duct opening. 3. slacken off the headlamp nuts and twist the headlamps outwards. 4. disconnect the two plugs ( one either side ) that connect the front indicator lamps to the wiring loom just inside the rear of the nosecone 5. remove the single centre bolt underneath the nosecone that holds the nosecone onto a tongue projecting forwards from the chassis 6. remove the two other retaining bolts at the rear left and right hand corners of the nosecone that attach the nosecone to the top chassis rails 7. gently slide the nosecone forwards and off. You will now be able to reach all the joints and tighten them as required! Quote
sp858 Posted January 3, 2006 Author Posted January 3, 2006 Steve, Thanks for the reply. Does this mean I can leave all of the radiator hoses intact and connected - I'm trying to avoid having to drain it at this stage. Simon Quote
Darren B Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 I found that I have taken the nose on and off loads of times, so I made a couple of brackets that bolt to the chassis and support the weight of the ducting and the radiator and I can then run the car with the nose off without all the hoses taking the weight. Boomy Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Blimey, my Pre lit nose cone comes off with one bolt and 2 little spring type screws that you just half turn. It takes about 40 seconds to remove/steal it. Quote

Boomy Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Can get some for you aye if you need them, not right now though, too dark at the end of my garden There is one bolt underneath the nose at the front just behind where i fitted my number plate and then 2 of them spring type screws on each side covered by the bonnet when it is in place. I found the best pics i could for now, one of them shows the screw on the left hand side. They just half turn and lock onto small metal bars and then the bonnet covers them. The bolt on the front is in the middle a small way back from the plate. Me, the 13th Duke of Westland, posting pictures, on an internet forum, at this hour, are they completely mad?!! Quote
MAT1800 Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Cheers Boomy, It was the spring clips I was interested in, sounds like a good idea. At the mo I have to remove two bolts into riv nuts, between the inside of the skuttle and the cooling pipes etc. Not the easiest of things to do when the engine is warm. Wouldn't mind a hint as to where to get them, at a more decent hour of course.. And where did you get those stick on arrows! Quote
Boomy Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 I have to be honest mate, the way it is fitted is nothing to do with me, it was like that when i got it so i assumed most bonnets were the same. I don't need to move the lights or anything, just undo one bolt, pop them spring style screws and slide her off.Oh i do have to pull the indicator wires out though to remove it completely but they are just on simple plugs and take seconds to remove. The only thing i would say regarding them spring style screws, they do have a mind of their own on my car meaning they are often popping out. However, that would only ever cause a problem if i were to drive around with the bonnet off because the bonnet holds them in. In fact due to the way the nose cone sits over the headlamp brackets etc, even if they fell out due to the bonnet being off (i still doubt they would though, they would just hang in the holes) it still wouldn't cause me a problem. I'm not sure i would trust mine (meaning maybe new ones are more secure) at least though on anything that wasn't covered, so it depends where you want to use them i guess mate. I will get a better pic later and show you what i mean instead of waffling Quote
MAT1800 Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Cheers, Perhaps worth further investigation then. Quote
kipford Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Boomy FWIW those springy things are '1/4' turn fasteners and made by Dzus. Most people call them 'Dzus Fasteners', this name is a bit like Hoover and becomes generic tending to ber used for all other makes. So when you knacker the ones on your nose or loose the stud (it happens) you know what to ask for. Dave Quote
