DASHBOARD FIT

hi guys

can anyone tell me if the dashboard should be bolted to the 2 lugs on the crossmember tube (steering column support) as well as the scuttle?

Also the manual talks about not fitting the crashpad if a full tonneau cover is to be used, which I have already bought?

Likewise the neither my westfield supplied, or my present dash uses those lugs.

I have a crash pad, and have a tonneau cover.

Would guess the manual suggests you not attaching a poper to crash pad, as my the crash pad is only held on by velcro ?

Having said this I have not had a problem with this, even though, I only use tonneau when I park (ie I do not drive with passenger side covered). not my car is 6 years old.

You have to fit popperd to the scuttle btw the screen and the crash pad . thats the awkward bit as the screen is close up and makes life difficult for drilling etc.

I fitted 2 poppers in center and fixed with 3mm machine screws after tapping the scuttle first . I also used a touch of grp resin on the threads as a back up .

never had a problem and driven with half tonnue mode  :xmas:

Fitted my dash to suttle using M5 aluminium rivnuts to avoid having to reach nuts/washers behind scuttle.. No fixing to steering column.

With a tonneau you fit the crash pad after fitting the press studs to the top of scuttle, otherwise it's difficult to measure and you could damage crashpad when drilling and rivetting.

I have used M6 aluminum rivnuts in the scuttle and then M6 cap head screws to seccure the dash to the scuttle.

This saves farting about with nuts on the back of the scuttle, is not as "perminant" as rivits and looks better than self tapping screws.

Only think I would add, was that I was apparently suffering oil surge under breaking, as my guage would drop to no pressure :0

However this turned out to be an odd earth, when the dash slightly moved forwards under hard breaking and touched those lugs you mention. So I stuffed some insulating foam between the two and that cured me oil surge issues, and saved me £'000 in not chasing non existent problems. :t-up:

Hi guys,

Thanks for your help, sorry I didn't reply earlier but had trouble with chat room logging me out every time I tried to reply!

I have ordered a right angle drill for those studs under the screen, which I will attempt after the SVA.

Tried to start the engine today, but it won't fire up. Have a spark and fuel with pressure, going to try new plugs next :bangshead:
