Bob Green Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Don't know how significant it is but when I change my oil filter I wipe a film of oil onto the sealing 'O' ring before installation Smearing the 'O' ring with oil is very significant. It seems the last filter was fitted "dry" and that's why you have struggled getting the old filter off. Quote
zvezdochka Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Kerry Have you fixed the leak? I'm thinking of buying the WF sump when I pick my TB kit up. What was the mod to the windage tray? I think on raceline sumps you have to shorten some of the bearin cap bolts which hold the tray in place. Rick Quote
KerryS Posted January 3, 2006 Author Posted January 3, 2006 Sorry Rick - missed this, thought the thread was finished. I took the sump off last week but all seemed OK. The only thing I could think off was that the sealant over the joint in the castings wasn't cured. Since putting it back I haven't started the car as I have been away. I may try again tonight. Windage tray - removed it and cut 10mm off the front edge, haven't had to modify anything else (other than fit the new, supplied, pick-up pipe). There was a slight foul of the sump casting to the nearside engine mount but a couple of minutes with a file sorted this and it may not always happen as it will depend just where the mount sits on its bolts. The reason I chose this sump over others was, as mentioned before, it does not compromise the engine warranty and was similar price to a cut n'shut Dunnel/Scholar one. The casting finish is not the best but is quite satisfactory and has longitudinal and lateral baffling in. Kerry Quote
