thos Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Folks, I've got an old '89 Saab 9000 2.0 16v, it'll start and idle - but it wont rev. If you rev it, it wants to stall and die. Checked all pipes etc around throttle body, vacuum pipes etc, cant find anything out of place. Have swapped throttle body from a scrappy car to try and rule out throttle position sensor, but no joy. Throttle position sensor is old swtich type rather than pot, so no adjustment on it. Tried bunging up various piping, if you raise throttle really slow you can rev a very small amount, but will eventually stutter and stall. Was hoping to get it running for a fun handicap Autotest in a quarry on Monday, but it's not looking good. Any ideas Tom Quote
Guest Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Sounds like a lack of fuel, do you know what the fuel pressure's like? Quote
thos Posted December 23, 2005 Author Posted December 23, 2005 Didnt think of pressure, I've no gauge though. Quote
thos Posted December 23, 2005 Author Posted December 23, 2005 You didn't put diesel in it did you No, but it has been sat up for 2 yrs, so god knows what's livinig in the tank. Quote
Guest Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 try clamping off the return on the fuel rail (if its not one of those crap solid pipes), that should give it some more pressure, then try revving if it's not been run for 2yrs theres a good possibility the fuel filters blocked Quote
jonlewis Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Its not an LPT is it... if so air intake Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 Is the fuel old? It does go off and you're lucky it would start at all if it is 2 years old. Quote
Blatman Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 I agree. Fresh fuel is the first thing to try... Quote
Martin Keene Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 Thirded. Drain the tank before going anywhere else. Quote
MuddyBum Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 It's a long shot but also very possible.....does your sabb have a catalytic coverter fitted, if so they are prone to melting and completely blocking the exhaust. I have seen this many times and the symptoms match exactly. It may be a bit easier to eliminate this than draining the tank? HTH Merry Xmas and all that Cheers Si Quote
Kevin Wood Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 Also, MAP sensor or MAF sensor if fitted. Try the easier things first though. Kevin Quote
MuddyBum Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 Another possibility if it has bee sat for a long time is the air flow meter...... if i thinks of anything else I'll scribble them down...... While i am at work HTH Si Quote
