scott beeland Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 What about the VX v6 that someone posted up a picture the other day? Now that is a car I want to see/ read about again Anyone find it ?? Quote
Blatman Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 The next generation of technology Mitchell Cotts Transmissions is manufacturing a New gearboxUsing MT 75 internals but in a case without a Bellhousing it has a fitting flange to match the type 9 Bellhousing enabling upgrades to existing installations . But with a far greater torque capacity Ideal for high out put 4 cylinders 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder engines and ability to handle some turbo Applications. No problem there. BUT, if it's more MT75 than type 9, as appears to be the case, then upgrading the box with better ratios may be an expensive proposition, and first in that box, whilst not the shortest out there, still won't be much use on anything more than a modestly powered Westfield as it's waaay too short... IMO of course... Quote

IMO of course... And I totally agree with your opinion, and I went with a BGH type 9 with the Raceline Duratec Bellhousing (which is actually manufactured by Mitchell Cotts!!) I test drove the first Duratec Demonstrator with this MTC-C box (with standard MT75 ratio's) and I think a 4.09:1 Freelander LSD, and it felt as though Second gear was perfect for first. I spoke direct to Mitchell Cotts at the time and they had NO intention of making optional ratio's due the high expense associated. Quote
Hairy2 Posted December 20, 2005 Author Posted December 20, 2005 Thanks for all the advice Do you know any duratec powered westies out there for sale? It is definitely the sensible option, the problem is that i've grown slightly attached to the animal, and don't want to give up on it and send it out to pasture with someone else..... unless you know someone out there who wants an Essex powered westy. Any offers??...engine requires some tender loving care.... anyone?? I think a quick visit to shawspeed may make my mind up tomorrow. I didn't know about the place but it turns out the office is only 15mins drive away. NB I won't be going in my westy though One concern is the conversion to a hydraulic clutch. What is involved and what are the advantages/disadvantages? Been speaking to a guy at Robspeed (a very helpful man who develops race engines and sells a load of stuff on ebay) who says that they are developing a cable clutch conversion/system for the duratec but it is only at development stage and not been tested on the road. He intends it to be on the market later on in the year..... far too late for me, my car has spent too long in the garage with the engine in pieces. Neil Quote
Thrustyjust Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 the hydraulic Duratec clutch is sold by Raceline that I know of.Seeing it put in my mates car,he has floor mounted pedals, but am sure they will do one for the upper mounting pedals. Quote
