The Great Fandango Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 A rather basic and probably meaningless question, but what's the typical weight of a Westfield? I'm just curious as last year the MOT guys were scratching their heads when it came to the rolling road brake tests - they needed to know the weight of my car in order to give it a pass or a fail!?! In the end I found my chassis plate (which has never been attached to the car) and quoted the 900kg stamped on it - seems bl**** high though? Don't care - it passed. So if anyone just out of interest can tell me the typical weights of V8 / Zetec / Pinto / blade / busa or have actual figures I'd be most appreciative as MOT day looms once again. Best regards Kyle Harrison Quote
Jenko Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I think the Chassis plate quote 900 (with two people), 425 empty and dry, and 500 with is the average....I would guess with all the bits and bobs, most Westfields that have standard equipment on them (i.e. spare wheel, normal windscreen, roof, etc) would weigh anround 650kg Paul. JeffC Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 megabusa .. dry sump areoscreen, lightweight bodywork , image wheels, race seats , no spare was 495 kg with 3/4 tank of fuel. has full cage now so will be slightly more.. Quote
adamnreeves Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I asked a similiar question no so long ago. The weights are fully loaded with fuel, two people and luggage. Where the luggage goes I am not sure. I am building a V8 and understand that it will be around the 850Kgs mark. I think the usual Zetec spec will be around 750Kg? Bike engines weight a lot less and usually race spec as thats the point, are usually around 500Kgs I believe. I am sure you will get plenty of replies to answer your question but as specs vary so much I would get down to your local weight bridge to really answer your question. Quote
Blatman Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I think the usual Zetec spec will be around 750Kg? 600-650Kg's more like. The weight on the VIN plate is, as we said before, the maximum permitted weight of the vehicle, and it shows how that weight can be distributed. It's so that if plod pulls you for being overloaded, he has a reference point and you have no excuses... Quote
Chris.B Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 IMHO the best source of info is the Fluke Motorsport weight database here. RE a "standard" Zetec, my SpeedSport started life 3 years ago at 630kg. It's been on a BIG diet since then - the driver hasn't though! Quote
geofff Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Lightweight SEW chassis and bodywork, full cage, stripped out interior, zetec, fuel.........520kgs Geoff Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Zetec road car carpets squishy seats etc 585kg race car (vx) 530ish kg megabusa .. dry sump areoscreen, lightweight bodywork , image wheels, race seats , no spare was 495 kg with 3/4 tank of fuel This seems to be about the weight of Busa Westy's that I have come across which is about 50kg more than Westfield quote. Makes you think this is only 35kg lighter than my Vx sprint car why are they not lighter? Quote
geofff Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Hi, Every litre of fuel weighs approx 1 kg. What volume is 3/4 of a tank? What battery? How big a dry sump tank? Small lights? Radiator grille? The devil (weight) is in the detail. That's a light "road" car Matt. Independent or live? What does the extra 65kgs get you in luxuries over my racer? Ta Geoff Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 SEiW Image wheels and ACB10 help a lot Quote
geofff Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Hi Matt, How do you find the ACB10's? In the damp over the weekend I had predictable power oversteer - if I then lifted too quickly I got quite swiftly into lift off oversteer and fishtailing. Anyway I can dial that out or minimise it? Or is it just a case of training my right foot? Ta Geoff Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 On the road bl**dy awful not had them on the track yet but if the road is smooth they are very predictable if the roads have any sort of deviation (ie resurfaced) they tram line like a b***h and in the wet with standing water they can give you a scare or three Quote
geofff Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 hmmmm.... That's about what I'm finding although only been out in the damp so far - no standing water. I was wondering how much of the 'twitchy' feel (at reasonable speed on dual carriageway) was down to the tyres and how much to the quick rack / stiff suspension settings. I've driven the car down a few 'B' roads and am not intending to do that again on the current settings Have you ever tried CR28 Sport? Will they last in the 'damp' as opposed to the wet? Just trying to get a feel for when one tyre becomes the best choice. Ta Geoff Quote
stevio Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 SDV....2.0 Pinto... windscreen ....spare wheel.... full of fuel and oil..... 615 kgs Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Not tried the CR28's I do like the Yoko A048's though. Much nicer on the road Quote
