PapaLazarou Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Evening all, I'm looking around at possible SatNav options for a spot of touring. Basically it needs to be sturdy, waterproof, and cheap-ish (sub-£300 ideally). Has anyone any experince of the Garmin Quest unit? It seems to fit the bill nicely, and the suction mounting bracket should stick to my c.f. dashboard nicely! Ta muchly, Patrick. Quote
adam1330 Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 I've been looking at these as well, and they seem to be the best choice for open top motoring. I think there is a Quest 2 due soon, so it may be worth holding out for that, as the price of the original Quest may come down. Quote

ChrisF Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 I'm looking for a sat nav system for my reps company cars...I thought Tom Tom was best as it works off full posts codes Does anyone know if you can programme a post code via numerous other post codes i.e. route planning Quote
Blatman Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Saw an advert tonight for Tom Tom from PC World for well under 300 quid... Quote
adhawkins Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 I've got a Garmin Quest, been very useful in both the tintop and the Westfield. However, the suction mount wouldn't stick to my carbon fibre dash. I glued a block of perspex onto the dash. Now I've got an intercom, I'm gonna buy the motorcyle mount for it so that I can get power and an audio feed into the intercom too. Andy Quote

peterg Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 Tom Tom One model for £219 at PC World, check out the best deals on all their models here and for use in the rain, put a clear plastic food bag over it and you can still use the touch screen and see the directions Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 The quest is the one i've been fancying also, it has its own internal power supply as well, so you can use it on foot or bicycle Quote
Martin Keene Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Not suited for use in a Westfield though as the Tom Tom systems and PDA's aren't waterproof And how many people on here drive their westy in the rain lmao More than you might think. a4gom Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 And how many people on here drive their westy in the rain lmao I do, and if i don't find another car soon i'll be doing it a lot more, t'old astra's in limp home mode now have to charge battery every night to get me to work and back. Haven't had chance to check output from alternator but it stinks like scalextric, its whistling and is playing havoc with the radio. Alternator light isn't on and my battery was nearly dry at the weekend. Probably fooked. Add an alternator, battery, fuel tank, two tyres to a car that I was given 2.5 years ago with body work which was passed its best then. Don't think so!. Looks like it will be the westie for a few weeks. Quote
pistonbroke Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Pop a set of brushes in there , it'll be fine . Quote
