Andrew Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Did Mallory for the first time this year, really enjoyed it, so I should be back next year. Any of the other Bishop crew fancy a run down? Quote
felters Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Might be persuaded to go Never done a trackday before - be gentle with me John I'll be there... John - you may want to try an airfield day before Mallory. I'll probably get flamed but IMHO it's not the ideal first event. The good news is that it's not a big circuit so it's relatively easy to find your way round, but there isn't a huge amount of run off. Finding the adhesive limits of your car at an airfield day first may be useful. See you there! Quote
The Great Fandango Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 John! Thinking back to Mallory this year, I was completely new to the whole track day thing too and a little apprehensive. I was classed into the now infamous " Mark Cooper's Group B" but saw little of the accident (got a funky video of the safety car whizzing out of the pit-lane in front of me) Girlfriend and I camped over the night before (although somewhat lacking in either WSCC members or a toilet) They don't charge camping fees (quite rightly so) and there is a pub on site! In all honesty... It was a bl**** blast! The best fun I'd had in ages, and have since gone on to do several track session, only Croft & Cadwell coming close on the smile-o-meter. I maintain that Mallory is one of the best value for money days, and it wasn't too taxing either. The track is short but most of it is flat out action! A testing long sweeping bend (Gerard's) and an equally testing hairpin (Shaw's Corner) keep your mind away from the fact you're getting dizzy round what is effectivley an oval circuit. Several things will strike you... (1) There will undoubtedly be someone in your session who goes tearing off on the first few laps! - DON'T - let those tyres warm up! Take things at your own pace. (2) There will always be someone faster than you (3) There will surprisingly always be a few people slower than you! (in my case breakdowns mainly) The day was well organised but I felt Cadwell had better organisation and safety standards (possibly down to Plays-Kool Motorsport) There's one thing left to say - Sign up! You won't be the only one there that day who's new to it all. Take a friend too, it'll be an experience sat in your passenger seat (and if you trust them, why not share the cost and exchange driving seats?) Best regards Kyle Harrison Quote

Chopkins Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 Hi fellas. Some advice please for a budding newbie track day club member... Obviously I need a race certified helmet if I am to do a track day - Can you point me in the direction of a good value supplier pls Secondly - My Westie has the standard "wet paper bag" roll over bar - Is this allowable at Mallory? or do I need to look at getting an RAC bar fitted. Thanks in anticipation. Anthony Quote

adhawkins Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Obviously I need a race certified helmet if I am to do a track day - Can you point me in the direction of a good value supplier pls Don't think it needs to be race certified, as it's not competition. Most track days I've done have never even looked at my helmet. Some may have more stringent rules though, so safest to check. Anyone know what the situation is with Mallory? FWIW, I bought an OMP helmet from Merlin Motorsport (at Castle Combe) for around £100. Usual advice about not ordering mail order unless you've tried it on first apply... Andy Quote
