I.S.M Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Hi can anyone give me advise on how to get admin sorted to take up this sport. Gun Purchase/Licence, storage requirements/course of action. At work yesterdaythey had a corporate day and got to try this for first time, and loved it/turned out to be pretty good. Managed 70 shots throughout the day, the rounds were 12g i think. Any advise welcome! Quote
skids Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 go to your local gun shop and they will tell you all you need. ps where are you in the world Quote
stever Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Hi Skid - jamie here. Thanks for speedy reply, live in bingley but work at Croft. Quote
skids Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 To far to help but as said any gunshop will tell all, apply for a lisence from the police , get it approved get a gun cabinet for security ,the police will want to check this then get your gun. quite easy ,just all a bit of a pain Quote
S8ight Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 find a local shooting school and go along a few times, lessons can be quite cheap. after that, get a cabinet fitted and apply for cert from local plod. what did you hit out of the 70 ?? just to shame you befor you answer, my little lad, 8 1/2, hits 20 out of 25 with a 20 Quote
stever Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Jamie Here:-Got about 45 out of the 70, was very happy with that for my first time. Your 8 1/2 year old can physically keep hold of a shot gun, what you feeding him rusks + steroids, love it! Quote
S8ight Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Your 8 1/2 year old can physically keep hold of a shot gun, what you feeding him rusks + steroids, love it! just get him to do loads of press ups every morning and night he struggles a little to mount the gun by himself but were getting him a gun for chrimbo and cutting it down to fit him. brianm Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Done this for a few years, but packed it all in now. Basically it is every (english) mans right to own a shot gun. provided you apply by the mentioned channels, and have no previous form with the boys in blue, then they cannot refuse you a shotgun certificate. As said you will have to provide security, pretty easy but varies with area, and give a reason for use. (Please dont say personal protection) The comical situation is that provided you show the cert you can purchase and hold ANY amount of amunition. It does not even have to be stored under lock and key Farsical Firearm cert, been there and done that, is a whole different ball game, jump through hoops is a phrase that springs to mind. But in a criminal/close range situation, which is the most dangerous? Perish the thought but I think I'd rather take a bullet wound than one from a 12vy English gun laws are ludicrous Bri. Quote
Rob Navin Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 ISM with a gun ...... Is it just me who is scared Quote
stu999 Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 he struggles a little to mount the gun by himself but were getting him a gun for chrimbo and cutting it down to fit him. Ooh, a sawn off.... Quote
funbobby Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 I shoot every Sunday - it is very good fun. Mind you Corporate day shooting is a lot easier than the normal club shoots - but still that was very good for a first go. You need: A shotgun Certificate - phone the local bobbies. Insurance - I pay 20 quid per year and that gets you insured for 5 million quid - Scottish Game Keepers Association. A shotgun Cabinet - bolted through the wall - the bobbies will come round and try to pull it off and if it moves even slightly then it will fail. Then of course a shotgun - look at a second had Larona Gold as a starter gun - they dont lose much value and are easier to trade for a better one if you like it. It got one for 350 quid and it works fine. Then get to a local club - ie Spennymoor, Hardwick Hall, Catterick Garrison etc etc and enjoy. I think thats about it Quote
brianm Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 look at a second had Larona Gold as a starter gun Shot with a Laurona for years, best value quality gun going Miss it all, now doing archery, more socially acceptable, and also lost the desire to kill stuff B. Quote
brianm Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 A shotgun Cabinet - bolted through the wall - the bobbies will come round and try to pull it off and if it moves even slightly then it will fail. Coppers?, examine?, I moved house twice and they didnt even call round to check I lived there let alone try to pull the safe off the wall As I said English gun law is seriously flawed. There is only one law that any shooter has to be aware of provided that he/she has permission to shoot on the land that they are on, as follows; You are not allowed to discharge a weapon within 50feet, about 17 metres of the centre of a footpath/ bridleway/carriageway , If by so doing you cause distress to any member of the public/bystander. Interpret that anyway you like like. I can shoot on the embankment of the motor way without infringement, but if a do gooder takes exception to a few shoots from aside the footpath 1/2mile away from him, I'm in trouble One of the reasons I gave it all up B. Second time round though and a couple of extra bolts it passed. They even come round and inspect your cabinet whenevr they like as well to make sure what you have in your cabinet matches those on your certificate and that your ammo isnt stored with the gun Quote
Darrell O'Neill Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Be warned, recently moved house and had my Firearms/shotguns inspected, my local authority now insists that gun & ammo are kept in separate cabnets... resulting in me having to buy ammo cabnet rendering the large gun/rife cabnet with integral ammo compartment useless If the process of new shotgun applications are anything like firearm/shotgun renewals, just be insistant and persevere with it..... there's alot of red tape in place in an effort to put people off...
