Front upper wishbones

Just a quick question. I have installed all the wishbones on the car now but the front upper wishbones were a sod to get in the brackets but managed it, consequently these wishbones are quite stiff compared to the others.

Was the same for me - doesn't seem to have caused any problems though. Guess you could always open the chassis brackets up slightly with a wooden block and a mallet if the bones are really stiff.

Looking at the bushes very closely I can see that only one side of each bush is making contact, the other sides (opposing also) have about .25mm gap. Have I put the wishbones in the right way, the manual said facing to the rear I think, I measure the tubes of the wishbone and installed with longest tube on the front.

As far as the stifness is concerned it requires about 2 lbs of pressure on the upper ball joint mount, not sure if this is what would be called excessive or not.

That is the correct way for the top wishbone, longer part at the front of the car, you can tap the brackets into place with a nylon mallet no probs if they don't quite line up, just tape up the powdercoat first so you don't chip it.

Did you fit the bushes ok then?

The upper front wishbones are already in place so lucky I did not chip the powder coat but the bushes are nylon as you you might know. Yep I fitted the bushes okay much better than metalastic. I was thinking this might be why a little tight as the bush caps overhang the bush holder whereas the metalastic do not of course.

I guess a couple of pounds of pressure needed to move is not a problem, I was just worried that this might add to the damping rate of the shocks (when I get them!;)

Yep they will be stiff when first installed, they'll be fine in use. You did smear all the surfaces with copper grease didn't you btw?

Your build seems to be progressing nicely, the fun will begin when you drop that lump of an engine in!  :0  :D

Not I didn't specifically smear grease over the bush edges other than the excess from the bolts and threads and grease I used to insert the bushes themselves. Didn;t mention this in the construction manual. Do I need to do this? If so I shall dismantle all  suspension and start again!

Nylon won't creak like poly bushes but even so it's a good idea to smear it on the faces where they meet the chassis brackets, stops noise, protects the powder coat and bushes by reducing friction.

Yep, see the point. I have little else to do whilst I wait for parts so I shall take off the wishbones and smear loads of the stuff on all faces. Thanks.  :)
