kh006 Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 I AM CURRENTLY RUNNING MALLORY DUAL POINT IGNITION WITH A BIG COIL ETC. I HAVE HAD CONSTANT PROBLEMS WITH THE SET-UP FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS. MAINLY COILS FAILING. BUT MOSTLY AFTER AROUND 2/3 HUNDRED MILES OF GENERAL MOTORING THE CONDENSOR FAILS. THIS IS VERY ANNOYING ! CAN ANYONE SUGGEST A HELPFULL SUPPLIER OF ELECTRONIC IGNITION UNITS, OR DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE ORIGINAL SET-UP WOULD HAVE CONSISTED OF. MY SEIGHT IS ON 'K' PLATES AND WAS FACTOR BUILT. IF YOU CAN HELP IN ANY WAY PLEASE REPLY ASAP AS I AM VERY DISHEARTENED AND MY WIFE KEEPS 'JOKING' ABOUT SELLING MY CAR. THANKS KELVIN. Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 HI Kelvin I would start by reading the following pages from RPI Engineering they offer some good advice over the phone give them a call and ask for either chris or holly I have always found them very helpful, When I built my last car Rover V8 I replaced the original distributor with the mallory unilite with the relevent balast resistor and coil and had no problems. Another point of reference and advice is the Sevens.net seight list there is tons of info and the ability to ask questions to seight owners all over the world. Hope this helps. PS before others say it joining the club is also a good idea Barry Quote
studbuckle Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Kelvin, Same problem on mine. Easily fixed with a cheapo home built ignition amplifier from Maplin. I've had that fail on me once but that was due to electrical supply spiking after a battery lead snapped. Does away with the condensor and on Rolling Road we showed goo power an ignition from that setup. If you want to spen bucks then Mallory do their equivalent of the amp which i'm considering for after I Efi convert. Si Quote
Mike H Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Hi Kelvin, Either try the email list as Barry says or try this V8 Forum. There are people on there who have tried ALL the Mallory kit in various setups and would probably be able to help. regards Mike Quote
