Animal Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 Adam, When you fit the nylons make sure they aren't a mega tight fit, otherwise the sleeve will be too tight to run inside them, you will probably have to remove some of the powdercoat inside the tube first as you would when fitting most bushes. I normally loctite them in (get the right loctite though) , and then smear the sleeves with either graphite grease or copper grease so they don't develop fretting corrosion or creak as Carl says, smear the bolts that pass through them aswell. Nylons are fine for road use, you'd be hard pushed to notice any extra vibration/harshness between nylon and poly on a westfield imo. Don't forget to leave a metalastic in on the outboard side of the lower rear wishbones for toe adjustment. Cheers, Mark. Can you tell me why they need gluing in. Surley when they are bolted in there's no need. Unless you keep adjusting/unbolting you might lose them in the process. Or am i missing the point? Regards. Quote
Mark B Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 Belt & braces really, if they fit spot on & both faces are even then its not absolutely necessary, but if you have to grind/sand away some of the powdercoat etc to get them to fit you can't guarantee this & then the loctite fills any voids aswell. It will help hold them in place, I look at it this way- you could either put a few dabs on before fitting the bushes which does no harm, or you could not use it and then find that one spins in the wishbone after its fitted causing you to have to dismantle the suspension and destroy the bush trying to remove it & replace it, costing you time etc and risking scratching the wishbone etc. It's apparently standard practise in various industries when using nylon in metal & loctite developed some of their glues for the purpose. Cheers, Mark. Quote

Tigger Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 Sorry to highjack this thread but do the Nylon bushes (or poly ones for that matter) run on the Nylon outers or the metal inners i.e. is the inner longer than the outers ? Does that make sense Tigger Quote

Does that make sense Tigger The metal inners are pretty level with the nylon outers. Quote
