Boomy Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 ..taken from another forum: Ananova: Driver threw speed camera off cliff: "A Swiss driver flashed by a speed camera attacked it with a pick axe, ran it over with his car and threw it off a cliff. The motorist used the pick axe to smash the camera free from its mountings, then drove what was left up a mountain to throw it off a cliff. He was doing nearly 50mph in a 30mph zone through the Swiss village of La Punt Chamues-ch in the Alps when he was flashed by the camera. The film and camera were destroyed, but he was spotted by police as he threw the device off the cliff and was arrested. He faces a fine of up to £13,000 for destruction of public property." Quote
gadrego Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 He faces a fine of up to £13,000 for destruction of public property. Its got to be worth £13,000 for the satisfaction alone! Quote
geofff Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Hi, Just in case this ever happened, what is the best way of destroying the camera? Are the pictures stored digitally? Are they retrieved by download over the phone or downloaded by bluetooth on a drive by or by wire connection on a drive by? Or are they on a conventional film roll inside the camera? My ideas: A very large magnet maybe placed by the side of the camera might destroy film roll. A magnesium boat emergency flare attached to the face plate might burn through. What do you reckon? Ta Geoff P.S. Off course you can always test your brakes and then accelerate once pased the camera which is a good use for a WF Quote
Blatman Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 The "normal" Gatso's use conventional film, and as such it's in a reasonably well sealed container. I doubt even a really strong magnet would have any effect. Expanding foam would wreck the camera, but it probably wouldn't do much to the film cannister. Something that burns hot would though, but you need to get it inside the case. White Phosphor anyone? Quote

Boomy Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 http://www.speedcam.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/index2.htm Few pics on that site showing the aftermath of various attacks, a few more on the home page. In fact what happened to that gatso terrorists web page? Iirc it showed tons of pictures of what they did to certain cameras. Quote
RICHARD+PHILIP Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Apparantly! If you block up the drain holes in the bottom of the camera the camera is damaged quite quickly by moisture. Quote
Mark B Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 If you put a tyre round the top of it filled with petrol & then light it that apparently does the trick, a bloke round by us went through a gatso, it flashed him so he burnt it to a crisp! Top man I think it should be made a new sport personally, whoever finds the most imaginative way to destroy one gets the most points.... Quote
scott beeland Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Industrial firework is favourite around here Quote
Liam Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Industrial explosive (all that was left was the pole); angle grinder and 'giving it a bit of a tug' with something very big seem to be popular hereabouts Quote

geofff Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Since the WF is still in re-rebuild mode I don't have any speed camera issues at the moment Flash away. Ta Geoff Quote
