Major Stare Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 I have the free version of Registry Mechanic and it always manges to find some type of infect/virus/whatever. But, the free version does NOT remove all of the problems, oh no, i have to pay for that. Anyone else here got it? Is it worth it? Also running free versions of AVG, avast!AntiVirus and Spybot Quote
Stuart Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Do a search for TweakNow registry cleaner. Works for me. Quote
Boomy Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 If it's like the majority of other free software, you don't actually have anything on your PC, rather it is suggesting what could be on it and that they will remove it when you get it!. It's often a massive con to get you to part with your cash. I run Norton fully updated and the microsoft spyware removal (used plenty of others too) but even though my machine is clean, there are plenty of 'trial' removal type tools that will suggest i have 400 infected files. Neil Purdie Posted November 12, 2005 Posted November 12, 2005 Fix it yourself. Not too hard to do ( if it lists the registry address of the affected files ). Print them off or write them down exactly as listed. 1. Make sure you have a system restore point. To access the System Restore Wizard, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. use restore to an earlier time to check for 'system check points'. If you havent got any then create one. 2. Start - run - 'regedit' 3. In registry editor navigate to the files listed and delete them, be carefull with the delete key in here. ( dont be surprised if some entries dont exist! could be a ploy to try and get you to upgrade your software for a pocket of cash ) Quote
