pgh Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Considering purchasing a Volvo, before I even hit 30 too Anyone know of any particular horror stories with the S80? Ta, Paul Quote
jonlewis Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Got an V70 D5 and it has been fantastic. Very good build, complete reliability and it is a top Diesel engine. Quote
KerryS Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Paul My other car is a V70 D5, didn't you know? Kerry Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 S80 before 30 it'll be a E class merc next. Quote
pgh Posted November 11, 2005 Author Posted November 11, 2005 Jon - thanks. Kerry, now you come to mention it I do remember you saying yes, sorry. How do you find it? Image aside, can't find anyone who has anything bad to say. Most encouraging; although, anything has got to be better than my current 5 clutches in the first 8000 miles ZT! Quote
Bob Green Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Pipe and slippers at the ready? In fairness I had an S60 petrol and it was bullet-proof. I have to say it My Audi A4 is nothing like the S60. Volvo's are great cars. Quote
JeffC Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Mate of mine sells a lot of Volvos he rates them , ive had an S80 myself to run sold it after a week was sick of getting ridiculed off my mates they thought it was me dads mechanically I wouldnt worry My pal has had some with big-big miles and ive yet to see one with a problem ... comparing s80 to s60 or v70 , they are much roomier inside, lump quieter at speed, less wind and road noise , downside is they seem to have fed them ugly pills, from a rear view they have bigger shoulders than Jonny bravo.. felters Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 I've a V70 T5 but have driven a S80. They're good value and will last forever but don't have the sophistication of a BMW or a Merc - and don't let the salesman tell you any different. Don't buy new unless someone else is paying. The residuals will be grim:D The T5 is quick for a big barge... Quote
pgh Posted November 11, 2005 Author Posted November 11, 2005 it'll be a E class merc next Pipe and slippers at the ready? I guess getting used to ridicule is the first step in Volvo ownership! Other than the looks & the swedishness though, sounds like a good buy... Paul Quote
Bob Green Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Like I said ..................... Volvo's are bl**** good cars. Forget the p*** taking, this is normally given from people not driving Volvos's after making a call to Green Flag or the AA Quote
pgh Posted November 11, 2005 Author Posted November 11, 2005 Felters - Looking at an 05 plate with 6k on it - given what it has lost since new I wouldn't fancy suffering that depreciation on a brand new one come resale time! Thanks all - good to have some owners opinions. Paul Quote
KerryS Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Paul The V70D5 is the 5th Volvo I have had, TBH they are towcars mainly for the caravan. This is the first diesel I have had as, until now, I have felt they had more vibration than I could tolerate. Then my son-in-law's father got a D5 and I was impressed. Previous Volvos have been turbo petrol and I do find this one lacks a bit of the urgency of the older ones but it was part of the imminent retirement plan and touring Europe where diesel fuel is so much cheaper made us go for one. Bear in mind it's a real old man's car with auto box and AWD and lots of leather. We also have 2 dogs, hence a V70 rather than the saloon. I have to say it has bags of low down torque and cruises happily at err...more than 70 mph. If you want a drive in it, let me know and we'll sort it one lunchtime. Kerry Quote
pgh Posted November 11, 2005 Author Posted November 11, 2005 Thanks Kerry. Car is in Notts, so will probably take a trip up there tomorrow to have a look. Guess you're heading down here tomorrow? Quote
Chris Elworthy Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Jon - thanks. Kerry, now you come to mention it I do remember you saying yes, sorry. How do you find it? He leaves it in the same place every night. Quote
