Front Wheel speedo pickup

Hi all,

just a quick question to everyone out there who had a speedo pickup from their front wheels pre-SVA.

I've had mine moved by the factory after three failed SVAs with the pickup at the rear after trying new everything and isolating wiring etc.

Westfield have provided a document detailing the speedo calibration mechanism/formula and said this should be sufficient.

The chaps at Chadderton SVA centre have said that this is not sufficient - they will need to see evidence of the actual and indicated speeds at the test.

I'm reluctant to keep the appointment next week if it's going to fail on this so would welcome any comments from people who've had similar.

Cheers

I had the same thing coz of the sensor being on an undriven wheel, i got evidece of westfield but this was not enough. Before the test i spoke to the SVA centre and said i could give them a GPS reading as proof, so i used a portable sat nav with a speedo on it and typed out the results with another persons signature on it a proof (this can be anyone.) And this passed to SVA no problem. :)

This might be worth suggesting to them and see what they say?

Sounds like the way forward - I have spoken to Mark at Westfield and he states that the doc they provide should be enough due to a technicality in that the SVA people have to prove that the reading is incorrect - if they don't have the equipment to do this they have to pass it. I'm not sure about this though!

I will type something up and get the wife to sign it - assuming I get the car rebuilt before SVA!

Hi Barnster,

Let me know how you get on with that, i'll be looking to SVA a front wheeled speedo sensor in the coming months so i'm very interested in what i'll need to do!

Good Luck  :t-up:

All OK today and got the magic MAC.

Just handed them the Westfield document plus mine describing the GPS stuff and table of speeds from 30 to 70 in increments of 5. Second column = first column * .97 - got wife to sign.

Was wondering whether it'd happen after hydraulicing my original engine last week - a busy weekend later and sorted....

Good News on getting through the test!  Sounds like you had some fun along the way  :D

So the Doc you mention from Westfield, is this something i have to ask them to send me closer to SVA?

Also can you clarify the

Second column = first column * .97 - got wife to sign.

Bit?  Is this something thats detailed in the setup section of the manual?

Thanks

Westfield actually moved my sensor so not sure if they'll provide without doing the work - worth asking as it's on headed paper.

I can send you a copy of what they wrote - basically details the rolling circumference for the wheels I have plus all the maths to reach the pulse figure.

SVA chaps told me on the phone that they will also need to see the actual/indicated speeds, a la previous post on this thread.

My added sheet basically explains that I used a GPS system and has two columns, one with the road speeds - 30, 35, etc. and the second column is simply the same values + 3%. I meant to say *1.03 not *.97!

Aaah, i see now where the *0.97 came from  :t-up:

ok, well i will speak to Westfield nearer the time and if i have any problems i'll PM you if thats ok.

Thanks for the explaination.
