david.c Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 Quite a few of the videos linked to on here recently have played really strange. They basically only have about half a dozen colours and look like they have been filmed with a heat scanning camera Does anyone else get this?.........and what do I need to download/change to correct it Cheers David Quote
bhouse Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 Most videos here play fine for me on Windows Media Player 9. If you're using something that hasn't been updated for a while that could be it. And I'm almost embarrassed tio ask this but I presume your display properties are set to 16 bit colour or better? Quote
david.c Posted November 10, 2005 Author Posted November 10, 2005 It's a 1 month old Dell 5100 machine running WMP 9 and set to 32 bit (highest) setting David Quote
gadrego Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 Yep, I get exactly the same problem on my work computer. Media Player 9 (although running Windows 2000). Tried everything to sort it other than upgrading video driver but I can't do that as need admin rights. Quote
Boomy Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 It's normaly a codec issue, do you have media player set to download updates etc? Or there are codec packs around on the net that may be worth an install. Also, look on the net for VLC player. It plays everything.I use it more than WMP tbh. Quote
SteveRST Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 Weird that you should have probs on such a new machine. I'd upgrade to the latest video driver, but only the latest one which is windows hardware certified. (WHQL Certified). Check u have the latest Media Player installed. (Version 10 is latest). I'd get the latest DivX codec and install that too. steve Quote
SteveRST Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 David - I can't help looking at your avatar and thinking that this problem may have spread from your PC to your Westy. That seems to have been affected by some pretty strange and ramdom looking colours too. steve Quote
david.c Posted November 10, 2005 Author Posted November 10, 2005 That seems to have been affected by some pretty strange and ramdom looking colours too. It's not a patch (pun intended) on Mark Purves car Thanks for the tips guys, I will give them a try David Quote

david.c Posted November 11, 2005 Author Posted November 11, 2005 Thanks Guys WMP 10 seems to have done the trick David Quote
JeffC Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 I can't help looking at your avatar Speaking of avatars, nice roll bar Andy Cool.. Jordan could lie down in there and not get nipple rash if you rolled it.. Quote
Blatman Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 I've had exactly the same issue here with a new PC. XP Pro and WMP9, and some Mpegs would look like they were rendered with crayon. I had a dig around the settings and options, and also had a quick look on Microsoft.com, but it wasn't in the FAQ's or anything. So I downloaded WMP10, and it's sorted... Quote
david.c Posted November 11, 2005 Author Posted November 11, 2005 So I downloaded WMP10, and it's sorted... Now been able to watch the firework in the backside clip, the jumping (or rather, not quite) the big gap on a BMX and the fit babe doing a striptease .......................... actually, that last one might have been on a different site David Quote
