a4drk Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 I've got the Winfixer 2005 virus in my PC. Basically its a program which installs itself & gives you virus, then you need to buy the program from them "at only" 40 dollars to remove it !!! anyone had this ? How do you remove it ? Tried various spyware removers etc... still keeps coming back... Quote
a4drk Posted November 7, 2005 Author Posted November 7, 2005 Downloaded it - it's running now!! so far it has found 17 infected files that Adaware SE & Spyware vanisher didn't find Thanks very much..!!! Quote
Neil Purdie Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Blatters. I just had a play with the No-adware program. Strangely it advised that two registry entries were threats. Strange because the address doesnt exist ( manual registry hunting makes my eyes bleed ), also they were the first things to appear durring the scan. I wonder if this is a ploy to fleece people of £20 as A4drk has just found out. A4drk. rerun the program from the original link and see if 2 registry entries appear at the top of the list. relating to 'bazookabar and netvizor' Quote
Neil Purdie Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Just been doing a bit of research on bazookabar. I knew it was adware and had potential for snooping. Symantec list its registry entries on their site. One of these is - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\BazookaBar The No-adware program lists the address as - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\\BazookaBar spot the extra \ Quote
Lordbenny Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Yes, I've got!!!! Been trying to get rid of for ages, It's just that damned pop up. Spybot says that it has sorted it but it just comes back! Quote
Lordbenny Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 So, I dowloaded NoAdware & was relieved of $40.00!!! However, although over 60 problems were found I don't think Winfixer was one of them I'll just have to wait & see. They do seem to be fairly on the ball though, they have a live on screen chat mode that you can talk to an operator & get info on line regarding various problems. I suppose the theory is that you cant have enough anti-spyware/virus programs on your pc. Quote
Neil Purdie Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Try using a system restore point from a few days before the popups started. Start Control Panel Performance and Maintenance on left side of screen - System Restore follow the instructions and hope or if that doesnt work try this..... Its a bit in depth but you could try following these instructions for removal of winfixer. Spyware removal guideline.com As i said its a bit in depth but each dificult part is explained Quote
a4drk Posted November 8, 2005 Author Posted November 8, 2005 If anyone wants a copy of the Noadware file let me know !!! donations accepted to cover my 41 dollar fee...... Quote
a4drk Posted November 8, 2005 Author Posted November 8, 2005 Its a load of crap - still got Winfixer.. When the file first scanned the PC - it found loads of files.... that the others couldnt find....... now that i've bought & paid for the bl**** thing - it cant find Winfixer anymore......... ?? Quote
Neil Purdie Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Its a load of crap - still got Winfixer..When the file first scanned the PC - it found loads of files.... that the others couldnt find....... now that i've bought & paid for the bl**** thing - it cant find Winfixer anymore......... ?? As I pointed out earlier it picked up some problem files other programs or manual searching cant find, because they dont exist in the system registry. Instead of releiving your computer of adware, Im guessing most of it is out to releive you of money A4DRK and LordB rerun Noadware again from Blatters link ***dont pay for it again ***. If the program finds files which have allegedly been removed then its a con. Get straight onto their customer service dept and demand your money back. Try the ideas in my last post. Winfixer can be removed free of charge with a bit of work. Quote
Neil Purdie Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 I suppose the theory is that you cant have enough anti-spyware/virus programs on your pc. Yes you can, if you think its good but in reality its s**t. ( thats not fair it edits out the 'h' and 'i' in s**t ) I could be wrong but I wouldnt trust it. Blatters. Out of curiosity are you using NoAdware or was it something you found on a search? Quote
Blatman Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 It's something I found a while back, but I didn't pay for it. I can't remember exactly what I did (and I can't get to the site here at work 'cos it's blocked) but I didn't have this much trouble, and I did have to wander around the registry looking for spurious keys to delete. Of course, Winfix may have been "improved" since the last time I came across it... I have a rule whereby if I find virus solutions on the net, if they ask for payment, I walk away. If A4DRK and lordbenny have not received the service they have paid for, they need to tell their credit card company's who should refund them without too much trouble. Quote
a4drk Posted November 12, 2005 Author Posted November 12, 2005 I think i have sorted it.. I was getting no response to Noadware when i complained, so i complained to my Credit Card company telling them i had been ripped off & wanted a refund & copied the letter back to Noadware!! They responded almost immediately - all apologetic & trying to help. He sent me a diagnostic file that i had to run & send the file back to them. He told me to delete 6 certain files & then re-boot in safe mode. I think the main bit was to delete - C drive - program files - "Myway" look for a program called that & delete it in safe mode - that should do the trick.... Good Luck Cheers David Quote
