I'll be doing the same in the next week or two when my contract reaches 12 months, currently have a 6230 and am thinking of a 6680 or N70 on some 3G contract. Im not sure if the N70 is the same or not, but one thing puts me off the 6680, and that is that if you lock the keypad, evidently you have to key in a 5 digit number to unlock it agian rather than the usual way of unlocking with menu *. Its a seemingly trivial feature but I think it will really get on my t1ts having to faff around doing that every time I want to access the phone. Can anyone confirm this is the case?

Also, does anyone have anything good to say about the provider "3"? They do some fantastic contract deals but everyone I speak to says they have appaling coverage?

Just upgraded to a 6230I. Had Nokia's since 1995 and spent from 1993-2002 running 2 of my own mobile phone shops. I never look at any others, just what Nokia's I can get a good deal  on when I need a new phone.

Ditto to all of the above....Nokia all the way  :t-up:

I got my new 6230i last week and it's been very good so far, all the main functions for business users and alot more besides.

However the cradle from Nokia for the hands free kit is pants and not as good as my previous 6130 cradle, it is flimsy and awkward to use.

6230i    me and MrsG both have them, much better than non 'i' version, completely reliable and fun to use  ;)  :D

That isn't correct. I have a 6680 and you can set a security code if you want but you don't have to. Unless you want the security thing then it works just like any other nokia series 60 phone.

The 6680 is a nice phone. Probably the best all rounder that Nokia do at the moment IMHO. The N70 has better camera so has got to be a good choice.

in fact, to quote the 6680 manual...

"you can set an autolock period, a timout after which the hone automaticcalylocks and can be used only if the correct lock code is entered. Enter a number for the time-out in minutes, or selection None to turn off the autolock period"

This is actually quite useful. I have the autolock set to a fairly long time. This means that, in general use when I am using it a lot, I can set the keyguard but unlock it with the usual menu *. However, if I leave it for a while the autolock kicks in. My logic being that, if I as to lose the phone it is likely to lock itself, protecting all my calendar, contacts etc but in normal use it does not get in the way much.

Agree on all of the above re. Nokias in general....have had an Ericsson, a samsung and a motorola and always end up back in Nokia camp.

As for the old phones, we found a couple of the original motorola flip phones the other day - real "bricks"....managed to charge them up but can't work them without a full size SIM....even tried the "adaptor" thingy but no joy.... :(

Was going to be a bit of a laugh walking down the High Street..... ;)  :D

Oh, and Nokia 6230i - best bit is "Real Golf"....v. addictive and closest I get to a golf course these days!! Have managed to do 18 holes to par, but no better.....yet....

Cheers Toby, so just to clarify you can have it so that it automatically locks the keypad still, and then just unlock it using the usual menu * type arrangement (unless you specifically set the security code)?

I use the auto lock after about 10-15 seconds so if I forget to manually lock it, it doesnt start calling everone in my pocket so obviously I'll be unlocking a lot when using the phone.
