If I remember the green wire going to rev counter is the + supply the black/white is the pulse wire coming from ECU, the black wire is earth. The 1k resistor goes across the green and black/white wire.

I'm stumped again!

I already have 2 green wires into the back of the rev counter, the black/white wire comes from the loom, not the ecu.

My ecu has a green signal wire which I assume connects to the green wires that are already there.  This give me a total of 3 green wires into the rev counter  ???  :suspect:

I then tried connecting the 1k resistor accross the green and white/black wire, didn't get a reading.  However if I riggle the resistor breaking/making contact with the white/black wire the rev counter jumps up and down.  Could this resistor be dodgy/wrong?

Hello mate - I've got loads of electronic crap at home...

I was building a microprocesser to display readings on a LCD from my ECU to tell me stuff like what the intake temps were etc. Louise calls it my geek-toys so feel free to take the p*** too!

I'll have a look when I get home from work to see if I've got some 1k resisters kicking around amongst it.

Cheers Neil, you get some proper geek points there mate!

Managed to get some at lunch, tried it this evening, but its just the same.  No reading, though the needle jumps when you make/break the connection with the resistor to either of the wires.  :bangshead:

Basically a rev counter needs 3 wires to it one will be the +ve supply the others being earth and pulse wire.On mine the pulse wire is the black/white and this goes from back of rev counter into loom and then to ecu.

If you have three wires going to it try and find out which of the wires are supply and earth.May need the use of a multi meter to do this.

Is the loom supplied by westfield or is it home built?.

It's a Westfield supplied one, spoke to them today as it happens.  The green wires from the loom give the gauge power.  The green wire from the ecu needs to be attached to the black/white wire with the 1k resistor in between.

I have tried this but still don't get a reading!!

I had a Alpha ecu previously & got a reading just fine, not sure how though  :durr:

The white/black wire in the loom that is described as the "feed to sensor", does anyone have any idea what/where this sensor is??

Should I be getting any volts from this wire when engine is running?

Just checked mine, my black/white wire goes into main loom into engine bay then goes into ecu loom via a plug and socket. At the back of tacho on the main plug that goes into tacho I have 3 wires, green +ve, black -ve,and the black/white pulse wire.My 1k resistor goes across the green wire and black/white.

Re your tacho problem

simular problem with mine may be of help

The Mbe ecu is already already fitted with a 1k series resistor I have had this confirmed by mbe

main reason on mine not a good earth .The alternator lucas (ford) type earth thr. the frame make sure this is so

I had to much paint on my  brackets  link with jump lead from chassis to alternator frameto test

on the standard westfield loom the is no cable connection for an earth

question when to turn on your ignition does the ign lamp light and on starting the engine if you phip the throttle does it go out?

steve

Ignition lamp comes on & turns off as soon as engine is running (looks normal to me)

Been on the phone to w/field & SBD today about this, so far no joy  :bangshead:

SBD say I need to be sure the VDO guage will take a square wave feed   ???  Its model number: 333-015-001 and I can't find any where to confirm if it will.  The 333-151-xxx definatly does.

The white/black wire isn't connected to anything (used to be connected to the coil & I now have a coil pack) the green wire from the ecu is what supplies the signal.

Don't suppose anyone has a 967i MBE ecu, coil pack & VDU gauge and can confirm what the model of the gauge is?

Thanks for the help guys  :)
