Hi there,

Just wondered if someone could tell me what the mountings for a Type 9 gearbox are like.

In my chassis I have a plate with holes in and then 4 welded on threaded bosses that are further forward... Does this mean I have moutnings for either type 9 of MT75??

Just found this ion ebay and am considering fitting a Type 9 wiht a long 1st...

Depends on your tunnell, MT75 or type 9.

If MT75 you can push engine right back and the rear mounting will pick up on the plate welded in or you can have engine forward (normal position) & pick up on bolted in plate.

If Type 9 tunnell then forward mounting point will pick up rear of gearbox.

Hope this helps

This is a type 9...

...and the mount is on the bottom towards the back... that U-shaped bit, see what I mean?

This is what it looks like from underneath with a mount attached...

The above pictures are of the box from my old tvr and the gearbox mount that was on that car. The mount was the frame which bolted to the chassis which held a rubber puck in which was embedded a plate which bolted to the gearbox with a single bolt. No other mounts in that installation.

Does that help?

Will that fit a type 9  :suspect:   :suspect:

The type 9 has a bit that comes out when 2nd & 4th at the front, and needs a corrisponding hole in the bell housing which this one dosn't seem to have.

You could always drill the hole yourself I guess   :)

I'll post a pic of the bit I'm on about when I can find it  :)

Edit: Pic added..

It's an MT75 bellhousing. It won't fit a type 9...

THanks for all the replies!

In the replies to the ebay advert it says it will fit a T9 to a Zetec. I knwo the MT75 will fit a zetec and this is supposed to be a new MT75 bell housing made for the separate gearbox produced by Mitchell Cotts...

...Does the Mitchell Cotts not ahve the same mountings as the T9 as it says? If not I agree its not appropriate.

THanks for the photos Mark, I'll post a picture of my mounts which will hopefully show whether or not I have the appropriate moutnings for a Type9.

Mithcell Cotts are a re-manufacturer. They make gearboxes to Ford spec. They don't do anything special.

The MT75 and Type 9's are interchangeable as complete units (rear mount fiddling notwithstanding), but the MT75 bellhousing cannot be fitted to a Type 9 as far as I'm aware. As mentioned, there is no hole for the selector fork that protrudes from a Type 9, but most importantly, it looks waaaaay too shallow to be able to acommodate the Type 9 input shaft length. You'd be better off looking for/buying an RS2000 ally bellhousing, but make sure it comes with a fork...

And looking again at the photo, that looks like a hydraulic clutch bellhousing. I don't see a clutch fork pin in there, but I do see bosses for the hydraulic clutch stuff. Plus, look where the starter will be when you level up the top mount holes...

I'll go a looking for a RS2000 one then.

I would just about make my day too as I've just confirmed with Westfield that my Golf Mk4 Calipers bought for £80 won;t fit as I have Sierra uprights  :bangshead:  :bangshead:  :bangshead:

I assumed (ass out of u and me) that as new module kits were Golf so would a new starter kit be.  :arse:  :arse:  :arse:

Day off to work on the car and I'm going backwards...
