shaun Posted May 2, 2002 Posted May 2, 2002 Have been insured with Adrian Flux for the past 12 months with my renewal due on the 10th May in 8 days time. I was just checking my mileage and realised I was just about to exceed the stated limited mileage of 3000 miles in the coming 8 days (with my trip planned to Stoneleigh at the weekend). I therefore informed Adrian Flux of this and stated that there will be an additional charge of £78 which I thought was ridiculous with 8 days remaining. This would have increased my annual mileage to 5000 miles. So I made a suggestion - I would cancel my existing policy (not expecting a refund) and would renew from todays date, which I thought was reasonable. I was told I was not allowed to do this because I was going to be exceeding the mileage for the quoted year. This left me with no option, so therefore I have cancelled my policy with Adrian Flux and taken a policy with Footman James. Talk about cut off your nose to spite your face. Quote
steppenwolf Posted May 2, 2002 Posted May 2, 2002 Ridiculous policy but congratulations on cockning a snoot at them - I love it! Quote
peterg Posted May 3, 2002 Posted May 3, 2002 and next time, remember to disconnect the speedo for a few days to stop racking up the mileage Quote
jon fry Posted May 3, 2002 Posted May 3, 2002 is this risky? say you had an accident and the car was towed away would the insurers refuse to pay as you may have been trying to abuse the terms of their policy? Not that i have considered this before of course!!!!! heaven forbid Quote
carterd Posted May 3, 2002 Posted May 3, 2002 haven't you also lost a years no claims as you haven't completed a full years insurance? Quote
shaun Posted May 3, 2002 Author Posted May 3, 2002 8 days insurance for £78 (for exceeding 3000 limited miles) which works out at £10 a day or £268 for 357 days on new policy which would you choose? Fair enough if I had a couple of months left £78 would probably be reasonable and surely I'm within my right to cancel my policy and take out a new one with anyone I choose, which is exactly what I did. Anyway goodbye to Adrian Flux - they caused me nothing but problems from the start. The staff are unhelpful and unreasonable. They threatened to cancel my policy during the first couple of months because I did not produce a certificate stating that the immobiliser fitted was 'thatcham' approved. It turned out that a immobiliser only had to be fitted if the car was valued over £15000 - mine was not. I received no apology for this. On to the new, I've heard good reports about Footman James - have taken out new policy with them costing £268 for the year which includes legal cover and European breakdown, which is not bad bearing in mind that I live in the Reading area. Also for an extra £52.50 you get track day cover. Quote
