KerryS Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Not sure what constitues agood show, but have to agree not much of intrest in the hall. Ultimas still look good and, I have to admit, having seen them race, the GD Lola T70 look-alike is just Only competed WFs were on Webcon and Elite stands. Kerry S Quote
KerryS Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 oh and PS before the spelling police come along, it's Donington, just 3 n's, not 4 K Quote
Mark B Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Yep have to agree, it was rubbish. It used to be a very good show imo, this time- 1)It was more expensive to get in 2)What I call the major manufacturers (westfield, caterham etc) were not there. 3)The manufacturers that were there seemed to be far more low key than usual (eg Ultima stand). 4)Not as great a choice of trade stands (couldn't even get a set of number plates -but you could at the stafford show earlier on). 5)The club stands were miles away from the hall & were not clearly signposted/pointed out. 6)It was in October which is madness, presumably because Donnington was booked up for the "usual" date but this makes for a very poor turnout (which it was today). I'd have gone for a blat/washed the car/cut my toenails etc instead if I'd have known it would be like that today! At least the weather was nice & we could get to the bar easily... Quote
KerryS Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 But today (Sunday) it was really busy, about 80 Westys squashed in between a load of Cobras and the gents loo Lots of natter in the borrowed tent thing from the Northants boys (thanks) watched the Grand Prix again on Garry's TV including that bloke's crash in the Jordan, had a bacon and egg butty and few cups of tea - all in all a grand day. OK - so WF weren't there, nether were a lot of other manufacturers - and if they had been, you'd only have spent 5 minutes there. I agree the club area was not well signed but even so there were loads of folks out there enjoying the track day, the cars and a natter. I admit that I didn't have to pay on either day and if I had had to, I might have a different view. Despite later on in the year, the wether was OK, not as hot as last year, but still OK. And apart from anything else, had a nice couple of trips out in the Westy. Kerry S Quote
stu999 Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 Just got back from Donington. Got there about 4.15pm yesterday, and had to wait 3/4 hour to get onto the infield (across the track), because the tintop and caravan wouldnt go under the tunnel. At least not without a greater run-up! However, for some reason, nobody asked us for any 'entrance' money Set up camp, lit BBQ, and drunk far too much Stella whilst sat around BBQ-turned-campfire. Patroling (and bored) security guard came for a chat a bit later on. Our mate eventually got a couple of laps of Donny (both circuits! ) with him at approx midnight! Top bloke... The planes coming in to land on a dark, misty night is something else - when you are only there for one night of course... Another BBQ for brekky. Bacon, fresh rolls, and HP sauce... and a large cup of coffee. Oh yeah, and another later on before we left, cause we had some sausages left All in all, we had a great time. But I can see why others were disappointed. We bumped into another club member inside the hall who wasn't impressed, mainly because of the quality/number of the manu/traders stands. And the fact there were no kitcars outside to look at. He was completely unaware that the owners clubs were on the infield! As a positive, I really do think the 'infield' thing worked far better than the setup on previous years. They just need to make the visiting public more aware of it... Quote
Mark Stanton Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 because the tintop and caravan Getting soft in yer old age stu Quote
slippy Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 I enjoyed it: Camping + Drinking + Blatting = Fun As previouslly stated I can see why others were disapointed Quote
slippy Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 Mark thanks for lending our kid your lid I amazed we found one to fit him Quote
jak Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 Very average Seems to be the same for most shows - just as well the WSCC turn up at these events or they would be a complete waste of time and money. John. PS think I need to buy a tent for next years shows - anyone got one for sale. Quote

custardtart Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 Maybe it should start being called the Independent Manufacturers show, that way the big players might come back. I don't think they want to be associated too closely with the Kit Car industry these days. Quote
