steve_m Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 I've got a Bosch cordless drill that I've had for about 5 years, does everything I need really well but the batteries have died. I can get new batteries but they're £50 each ! Has anybody tried replacing the cells in a battery casing or know where I can get new batteries at a sensble price ? Failing this I'll have to get a new one but it seems daft to throw away a perfectly good drill. Quote
MAT1800 Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 The batteries in the cordless drills are expensive, Screwfix do them now, but they'll never be cheap. We use a lot of them at work and find it's easier to just get a new drill, for say £30 more (than 2 bats)you get 2 batteries, charger and new drill! The guys are using them all the time, we usually have to replace them every 2 yrs on average. Don't know how good a drill you want but screwfix are doing a 'skill' 12V drill with bat, charger etc for £54....Or Bosch 12V battery for £39 Mat. Quote
KerryS Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Ditto - when the batteries fail, new drill time. I have a Bosch drill too with failed batteries that I cannot bring myself to throw away, even though it's no use I replaced it with a Torx one for £45 including 2 batteries and hour charger - it built a Westfield with a little help from me Kerry S Quote
steve_m Posted October 6, 2005 Author Posted October 6, 2005 Thanks, new drill time then ! My drill is 9.6V, I wonder if driving it at 13v from the car battery would give me enough power to reverse the car . . . silver lining and all that Quote
peterg Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Steve, I found these people here as I was looking for a pair of batteries as years ago I bought a suitcase type thing in Homebase with 12v cordless hammer drill and a separate 12v cordless screwdriver in it and I didn't want to replace them both - they do two new 1500mah batteries for £60 delivered! much less than a new drill and driver (for me anyway) Quote
Blatman Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Drills and all manner of stuff to be found here. Bought a Bosch drill from them nearly a year ago. Excellent service, fast delivery, and no problems with the drill at all. Quote
pistonbroke Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Go for the NiMh batteries there a lot better , faster re charge and no "memeory" effects than NiCad types Quote
Mike H Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 My Bosch 24v battery is on it's way out - just found out they are £90 each for a 2Ah battery !!!! Screwfix sell the latest version of my drill with 2 x 1.3Ah batteries and 13mm rather than 10mm chuck for £129. Work that one out! Quote
peterg Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Woohoo! just found the right 12v batteries - here for only £19each MikeH they have some 24v ones too so it may help, no 9.6v or 7.2v ones though, sorry Steve Quote

The drill is very compact and drills 4mm holes in the chassis so is powerfull enough for most garage duties. Edit: Having looked at the prices of new drills it's not worth buying the batteries. Quote
