Molydood Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Hi, I have done some searches and not rerally found what I was looking for. I am looking at buying a particular westfield, and one of the items concerning me is the need to pack the silencers to meet trackday noise regulations. I can't really be bothered doing that, but I see that you can buy bigger silencers to prevent this need. Is there somewhere I can get these items? How much do they cost? I have searched ebay, and the forums for parts, but can't really see much. It is a pinto engine. thanks, Martin Quote
Molydood Posted September 26, 2005 Author Posted September 26, 2005 I have seen this site: http://www.westfield-sportscars.co.uk/shop....ory=cat but everyhting seems so expensive, or is that just how it is? cheers. Quote
adhawkins Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 A number of places make aftermarket re-packable silencers. Wunoff and Raceline are a couple, and as you've already found the factory now do one as well. A search for 'Wunoff' will probably bring up a thread giving even more options. Expect prices to start around 200 quid or so. Andy Quote
JeffC Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 ~Ive just replaced my standard westy silencer with a wunoff bigger silencer, although i had never had any trouble with the standard westfield one , the wunoff is much quieter.. this is a repackable type that has just been packed , on a na cosworth westy which is what it came off i was told it was 95db , i bought it 2nd hand off the parts for sale on here Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Have a word with ivan at Procomp - 0121 350 3258. He has developed a track day silencer for this very reason and its very lightweight to add to the bargain. John Quote

Molydood Posted September 27, 2005 Author Posted September 27, 2005 I spoke to Wunoff, they will charge me £200 for a 30" x 6" type, seems it is exactly what I need. unless somebody is selling one? thanks for advice all :-) Quote
Toby Mack Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 be aware that, depending on what manifold is fitted, you might also need a link pipe made up to match the manifold. Not a big deal (and I am sure wunoff can sort it) but just so you know...... Quote

If you do you would be better off with a 7" x 30" can. cheers Bazzer Quote
7SE Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 These guys NF Autos are a little cheaper. I have no experience, nor seen the product, but was looking for a new silencer... Quote
Molydood Posted September 27, 2005 Author Posted September 27, 2005 I have a pinto engine on 48 dellortos. The guy at wunoff seems to know his onions and spent a long time telling me about the ins and outs of it all. He also mentioned that he can do me a link pipe if I fab. one up in plastic and send it on (if I can't find somebody local to do it) by the way, I understand that it is a 24 inch can totalling 30 inches with all the links etc, I assumet that's what we mean when we are refering to a 30 inch can? oh and I couldn't get through to procomp at all :-( cheers all Quote
neilb Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 I have one of the CBS/NFauto cans seems to be as well made as any other and the exhaust is much quiter than the inlet now. Quote

I am sure the chap does know his stuff, but the I was told there was no way I would need a bigger can than a 6" x 30" on my Busa. I did and was left with buying a 7" x 30" afterwards and its still was not as quite a I would like. My advice would be to fit the bigest repackable can you can fit in the space. This is generaly a 7" x 30" on most cars. You can fit bigger but it does start to get difficult. Otherwise you will buy a can get kicked off a track day and be forced to buy another one. Cheers Bazzer Quote
Molydood Posted September 28, 2005 Author Posted September 28, 2005 thanks Neil. interesting about the sizes you recommend, I am up for getting the larger one if it fits, perhaps I should suggest that to the Wunoff guy and see what he says. He reckons I would be well below the 100db with the 24" can. Has anybody else got a pinto engine with carbs and has some experience with what noise levels are achievable with what configs? That would help a lot here thanks Quote
Bazzer Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 He reckons I would be well below the 100db with the 24" can. The chap at Techcraft was sure my Busa would be below 98dB with a 6" x 28" can. Its not below 98dB with a 7" x 30" It might be that Pinto silencing is well understood, but I would still go for the bigest possible to give you as much margin as possible when being noise tested. Don't forget it will get louder over time until you repack it again. I just know lots of people who have bought 2 or 3 silencers until they got one quiet enough. Bazzer Bazzer Quote
