Gavin Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Just got my first ever speeding ticket through today for doing 46 in a 40 zone. The worst of it is I saw the van, pointed him out to the wife and checked my speed and I swear I was only doing 40. It was a mobile unit right near Northamptonshire police headquarters and it was on the other side of a dual carriageway that has bushes in the central reservation, he must of been bl**** lucky to get me.Just going for my LGV licence too and got 35 out of 35 in my theory test last Friday, so what great timing that is.Anyone got any advice or ideas on it,APART FROM DON'T SPEED !!!! Only telling somone today about having a clean licence ever since I passed my test 11 years ago !!!! That'll teach me for opening my big mouth . Anyway, sorry for my winge but I had to get it out Quote
zoso Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Might be worth getting your speedo checked!! Mabey he got you going away from him... I think theres a few bits about speeding tickets on piston heads... Quote
Vinny's Westie Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Given that ACPO allow 2mph above the EU regulation of a speedometer only having to be accurate to plus or minus 10% that means you cannot get done for doing 46 mph in a 40 mph zone, 47 mph Yes, 46 No. Also from a mobile camera(handheld by PC Plod) the operator has to be very careful about moving the gun or he can get a reading which is incorrect, the laser maybe accurate but the problem is with the operator, if mobile van then that is a different story as the camera is fixed. There are other ways to avoid the charge, all of which are legal, you may like to PM me. HTH Quote
Gavin Posted September 22, 2005 Author Posted September 22, 2005 I thought about a speedo check but it is a factory built car with only just over 6000 miles on the clock, do you think I might still have a problem with it or (hopefully), do you think the d**khead in the fluro vest had a dodgy camera !! I don't know this for sure it's just what I done hearded... Quote
zoso Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 And whats an ACPO... probably should've asked that bit first... Quote
alan dixon Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Didn't some one mention about speed cameras picking up on the open tyres therefore a greater speed shown on the gun readout? Quote
Vinny's Westie Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 ACPO is Association of Chief Police Officers, its their own guidelines, certain areas will allow more than this, South and Mid Wales is supposed to be one, but all areas abide by these rules, the minimum is 10% plus/minus plus 2mph. a4gom Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I had a ticket for 34 in a 30, driving council land rover, the city engineer spoke to the chief constable but i still got done. He said it was 10% never mentioned 2mph, it was 1988 so thing might of changed? Quote
Vinny's Westie Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 My rules are uptodate, as confirmed on 1st September by speed "partnership" van and the recently retired boss of the "safety camera partnership". Check the relevant website of www.notsoaccurate.com and www.safespeed.co.uk (not sure right address). Quote
Blatman Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 There was a posting on here recently discussing the validity of speed cameras being questionable when obstructions like trees and central reservation barriers are between the camera/laser and the target vehice. Also, where was his vehicle parked? If it was parked on a grass verge, or on an urban clearway (as most dual carriageways are) and NOT in a layby, he was parked illegally. Unless he has a dispensation *in writing* to say he can park at that place, at that time, any "evidence" gathered may well have been gathered illegally, and is therefore not admissable in court. Mrs Westy Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 There wasn't another one hiding on your side of the road a bit further up/down that you didn't see, was there? You might be assuming you were got by the one you saw, but sometimes round here they seem to go out in convoy. Bit of a pointless question really I suppose, as if you didn't see them, you wouldn't know Quote
budmikem Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I know how you feel mate. I got done for doing 75 mph on the Motorway !!!!!! and I was in a Landrover ! Towing a trailer and in the 3 rd lane! No justice in this fair Land anymore ! Must admit plod was good.....it was either speed or 3rd lane and not both !!! Empty motorway....one mobile crane....one Hgv.....me....one bridge and one plod ! Got to give it to these plods they know where to sit !!!!!! Mike Quote

Check out Lord Allen's question here - you will have to scroll down a bit... Quote
ROC Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Bad luck Gav, excellent result on the theory test though when is the driving test? Cheers, Rich. Quote
