Are the Sparco Club Helmets that go for around 60 quid  acceptable for track days and sprinting?

The do bear the marks BS 6658-86 type A but are open faced with a small peak visor?

ta for any advice

If you wear an open faced helmet you must wear goggles. The full rules for sprinting are covered in the WSCC 'Intro to sprinting' guide (available from the home page).

Getting a cheap lid is a false economy IMO, you can pick up decent ones for not much more than 100 quid...

Cheers andy - I aint wearing goggles, I might look and even bigger goon than normal - full face it is then.

I was just wondering as I may have been able to get one for next to nothing.

Cue lots of people telling you to remortgage your house and sell yer missus and buy the worlds best helmet.

Yes you CAN spend a fortune but then you CAN also buy perfectly good BS approved lids for £100.

Just make sure it complies with whatever series regs you're needing to stick to.

BS 6658 Type A or Type A fr (fire resistant lining) are the usual requirements (along with certain SNELL cert'd helmets).

ECE 22 helmets are not licenced for use in MSA competition

That's what I thought.

Could you recomend any paticular ones ? :D

I don't have a budget, much like everybody else my money is spoken for elewhere house, bills etc so the cheaper the better but obviously I want a helmet that conforms.

What does everybody else have ?

I use a Shoei RX-R, it was 200 quid from the bike show about 3 or 4 years ago. It only gets used for sprinting, so it is in as new condition still.

I use it 'cos it was cheap... I prefer Arai lids, and will at some point stump up for a GP5 or something similar.

Mine is a Sparco, from Grand Prix Racewear. Think it was between 200 and 300 quid.

Mines a Shark one from a bike shop but it conforms to the regs, it was a two year old model and hence handsomely reduced to the sum of £80. They're our there if you search :D

Well, that was quick... It *should* be stripped. It's in the workshop somewhere under various other tube work. So, it's just a case of me collecting it and getting it to you. Don't know when that'll be though...
