hi

we are just getting to the stage of about to strip the carbs for a 2.0 zetec to put new jets and tubes in we were wondering where is the best place to buy the tubes, jets and chokes from?? I have twin Webber 40's. Also any ideas which combination/ size to use.

Cheers,

Graham.

I use Eurocarb and tend to find them very good. With a 2 litre you are really over the limit of what a 40 can supply and would be better off upgrading to 45s before you start. Max choke on a 40 is 34mm (from memory) and you really want to be in the 36-38mm choke area for your engine.

Ah Brain failed me there. Wonder if there is an error in the Weber black book. In which case you might just get away with it, just don't expect the power to continue climbing much above 6000RPM.

As to the rest, depends if you want the car to work, or be spot on. Ask Will how much work it is (and how satisfying) to get it close to spot on vs the full throttle only that most tuners give you these days. The DVA jetting calculator is a good starting point, but there will be a lot of additional optimisation needed.

Maybe an unmodded 2ltr too

Jet choice is very dependant on how you want the car to drive and what spec the engine is.

CC is obviously a major player but if you've got 700 quids worth of ported/flowed head with bigger valves and wild cams it also plays a significant part.

Bill - I only know that because Bob Green used to run 40's on his 2.1 pinto with 36mm chokes, they were 151's though, so we may both be right - I wonder if older 40's are limited to 34mm...

Ok, we already have the 40Carbs they were bought a while back knowing that the internals would have to be changed.

How does the following sound?

2.0l Zetec engine completely std from mondeo 70k

40 Webbers

-36mm Chokes

-F2 or F16 Tubes???

-main jet 1455

-50/55f9 idle jets

-195 air corrector

Are there any other bits that might need changing?

Many Thanks, Graham.

Main Jets Look abit Big  :0

Take it that should read 145  ???  :D

They look ok for a Starting point until you get it on the Rollers,

But my 2 litre zetec's on 45's....

Use Dave Andrews's Jetting guide and you won't go far wrong.

Change the Timing Belt if you don't know the Engines History.

mmm Yea 145 would work a bit better wouldn’t it...

Nearly all of our values have been taken from the Dave Andrews site & we have done a timing belt change.

Out of curiosity what BHP is your car putting out Perksy?

Out of curiosity what BHP is your car putting out Perksy?

Not as Much as the next one  :D

BHP Varies from Rollers to Rollers and think Torque and Driveability is More Important (155lbs of Torque)

Put 36mm chokes in My 45's instead of the 40's that they came with, this Cost's Ultimate BHP at the Top-end But i think is gives Better Driveability Lower Down, Around Town etc

Just my opinion though....

What Ignition ECU are You planning to use  ???

That’s next on the agenda.. Its not actually my car that we are building, its my mates, but I think the two options are a £300 non programmable one or a £900 programmable one, I think he said that you get both of these from westfield.

Have a Good Look in the Archives, There's Plenty on Weber Alpha, MBE,Emerald, Megajolt ETC

Are You Planning on Going 3D (using a TPS) on the Webers  ???

Wise Decision if you do  ;)

Also, How many progression Holes are in your Webers  ???

(Just thinking about Progression Issues you may have when you get the car on the road...)

DTA's and Emeralds are around £550 new. 900 quid is pants down time...

Emerald for ignition only is £400 + VAT  Upgrade to add EFI is £150 + VAT so works out the same as buying the full-spec at £550 plus the VAT (i.e. no penalty to doing it in stages if budget is tight).

3D makes a huge difference.....

HTH....
